Title: Wing Hunter shakes, whats up?
Post by: Greg Szalewski on September 09, 2011, 06:17:00 AM
I friend of mine that is just getting started shooting trad just bought another Wing Hunter. The first he only had a couple months before a tip broke so he bought another. 58 inch, 49 lbs. When he shoots this one the limbs shake. He has the same string on from the last with whiskers. He tried raising the brace a bit. I think he should try even higher just to see but it is where the old one was and this bow is so much different. He is shooting 2018 arrows with 125 grn tips. I tried my 790 grn arrows in it and it sill shakes. What is going on here?

Wing Hunter? Do you mean Red Wing Hunter? Doesn't matter .All limbs vibrate a little.I don't see a problem. Maybe I' m missing something?

I have a wing target bow and it likes a 10" brace. Don't know about his but mine is 70" and I guess you would say the limbs vibrate.

Greg, look the tiller over, limb timing may be the culprit, especially on old ones.

You could mark it every 6" and measure to string, then compare numbers, or trace the bow ( strung) on a sheet of paper and flip end for end to see if the limbs match.

Just a thought....

Yea, the tiller could be off. What type of string grip do you both use? 3 under or split finger? Sometimes using one type when the bow calls for the other will throw the timing off.

Also, what brace height is he using, and where is his nock set?

Thanks for the suggestions. Yes, it is a Red Wing HUnter. I checked tiller and it was equal both sides as close as I could tell, so I turned the brace up and the higher we went the steadier the bow was. It never made any noise, just made a low frequency vibration when you shot it. It now is at 7 1/8 measured from the string to the closest point point of the shelf. Arrow flight is fine and he is pumped to us it hunting this year. Thanks again and if Wayne kills anything with it you can be I will post it here.
