Title: I'm shooting awesome tonight!!!!!
Post by: Zradix on September 07, 2011, 10:24:00 PM
Hey guys and gals.

Holy cow am I shooting well tonight!

I've only shot 17 or so arrows.

At this point I wonder if I should just stop for the night?
Maybe some muscle/mind memory will stick.

On the other hand, I want to keep shooting.
Partially cause maybe I can reinforce even more muscle/mind memory...but mostly it's just so darn much fun to shoot well.

But I'm afraid if I keep shooting my luck and strength will run out and I'll leave off with bad muscle memory.

What do you do in these situations?

Thanks!

I usuaully keep shooting till I start to see some fatigue or lack of concentrated effort. This lets me stop on a fairly decent note and try to learn from what was good and bad. Awesome feeling to be proud of your shooting isn't it!!!

Those nights are AWESOME!!! Im a decent shot at best, but every now and then i have one of these nights you speak of where i cant miss and i usually shoot till i wear out and start to miss. When that starts to happen i slow down, concentrate, and make sure i end the session on a good arrow

Sounds like good advice.

Yeah, it does feel good.
Things seem to be coming together after a few years doing this.

After rereading my post I guess it sounds a little like bragging.
I don't really mean it to be.
Mostly just asking when you all stop after a good round or so.

I'll tell ya, I'm no natural shot.
I LOVE shooting sports.
I just don't have any natural talent what-so-ever..lol

I guess it's the things we work hardest for that seem to have the best rewards...

I always stop on a round of good arrows.

Doesn't sound like bragging.  You wouldn't have a good day without some not so good days.   :D

If and when I shoot one of those magic groups (rare), I usually hang it up for the day.

Not bragging, just rejoicing at a good nights shooting. Bragging is when you say you can do it and that it is better than others can do or you had no other option but to shoot great. You are just celebrating a wonderful experience. Enjoy it.

Best feeling in the world when it happens to me, for sure.
Then the next night I ask myself where the stud went that was here the night before

After a good night I slow down and shoot one arrow at a time at the target, always quit when I have a good shot.

Likely have done all the above aforementioned actions on numerous occassions over the years.

One action I take on great shooting sessions these days, is to reflect even more after each shot. The reflection is focused on the 'what's' and 'why's' the shot execution was good. Often times during these sessions or even after a nice round, I may sit down and reflect for a few minutes then get up and attempt to replicate the exact shot execution. I may repeat this for five to six times and may even call it a day.

Zradix, I've had that same experience a time or two, and I know how you feel.  I'm happy for you.  I'm not a natural talent either, so these moments for me aren't a regular thing.  I do love it when it happens though.  Not sure what causes us to "get in the zone", but it sure is fun.  I've had similar experiences playing basketball and golf.

The longer I'm at it, the more that I think for me it has to do with good visualization.  When I'm shooting lights out I seem to see the shots before they happen.  Trouble is, it doesn't seem to be something that I can force myself to do.  At least, not consistently.

Wish I could offer some insight on getting it to happen more often!

I'd stop at the point I wanted to pick back up on when I came back to shooting.

God bless,Mudd

"Insight on getting it to happen more often". Lanny Bassham's book "with winning in mind" is a very informative discussion by a 2X world champion/ Olympic Gold medalist/ rifle shooter, on controlling the mind. Obviously we all have the ability as proven by Zradix's experience (and many others including me)(if I can do it once, I can do it twice) Look at Tiger Woods, he definitely has the physical ability, it's all in the mind.
