Title: Do they make brass inserts for 2018 arrows?
Post by: longbow fanatic 1 on September 06, 2011, 07:38:00 PM
I was wondering if any of you have a tip on where I can buy brass inserts for aluminum 2018 arrows? I see that Three Rivers Archery has brass inserts for 2016 and 2117, but nothing in the size I need.

Any ideas?

2018 is 4 thousands smaller than 2016 ID. Screw in field point, chuck up in drill, take a file to the 2016 inserts will not take much.

Great idea, Bowmarks. If I can't get them in 2018, I will try your tip.

Bowmarks is exactly right. The inserts that 3Rivers sell, are the only ones out there.Chuck them up in a drill or drill press and turn them down with a mill file.Keep a cut off piece of shaft handy to check your progress. It takes about 3-5 grs of reduction to get the 2016 inserts to work in 2018's.

Thanks guys! The mill file worked like a champ! The 2016 brass inserts (100 gr.) now fit my 2018 shafts. I can't wait to shoot'em now.

Couldn't you use a PDP insert for 2018 shafts and screw in the necessary weight into the back of the inserts? Just asking.

You could but weights are a pain and brass inserts are stronger than aluminum. The brass look pretty cool too.
