Search some recent threads and check what Ryan has to say. Lot of good info out there. Look for travel areas, field edges, etc. Find an overhangng branch or make one, scrape the ground, scent the scrape, check for results. Good luck.

Have used a dripper with activity and limited success, just remember when you set up and the position of the scrap, mock or not, the bucks/deer are checking them pretty far downwind and are at heightened sense mode, as if that can happen. Happy hunting

I dig up dirt from active scapes at a localpark where no hunting is allowed. Placing the dirt in zip lock bags and freezing.

I unthaw them and use them to start mock scrapes in mid October.

Get a bottle of Ammonia and try that in the scrape. The ammonia is the main thing the deer smells.

I like deer dirt.  Do a search and you can find it.  I don't look at it as a way to attract bucks to my location.  Rather I'll put them in a good funnel that I will be hunting in November.  Most of the time, if a buck is moving through that funnel, he will stop and investigate the scrape long enough for me to decide whether or not I want to shoot him.  Have not actually shot one doing this, but I have passed up a bunch.

Find a real one!  :bigsmyl:
my success really opened up when I stopped trying to bring deer to me.
Go find him on his turf!

I like the fact that when I start a mock scrape I can pick out a tree stand location in relation to where I think the buck will come from   (doesn't work most of the time ) In my early fox trapping days I used to go into the woods before season with a short handled rake and scratch up the ground down to bare earth about 3 feet across . Most times fox would walk through it first night . I also found deer pawing around them . I think the odor of fresh scraped dirt is overlooked as it is an attractant by itself .I make sure I have an overhanging branch and last year started using Smokies preorbital gland with pretty impressive results . He's a sponsor here . I also cut off the front feet of bucks whenever I can , ( friends that I help track for , bucks I've shot and even roadkills) I freeze these and use them for making my scrapes with . As they get old and stiff I thaw out a fresh one . I hunt several areas and make it as point to carry ziplock bags with me and when I find a fresh scrape that I'm not hunting over I take the urine stained dirt and put it on another scrape in a different area , that really seems to get their attenion . Some of the stuff I do . best of luck , Fred

in under three weeks 2 more scrapes opened up less that 10 yards away and the mock scrape was almost as wide as my 62" longbow
