Post by: Aunty on September 04, 2011, 04:50:00 AM
Has any one of you guys on this fine forum used it on the ground as a tent if so how did it go for you?

I don't think that is possible, I don't see how you could get in and out of it set up on the ground. Chris

I use mine between two trees and it is great, I don't know how water proof it would be on the ground!  (http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r267/bowmofo/AfricanSafari09016.jpg)

I think that they show on their web site how it can be used as a tent when there aren't any trees available.

Once the weather cools I am hoping to try mine out for the 1st time.

I will however be using trees since I think I'll enjoy it more than laying on the ground..lol

God bless,Mudd

Mudd,
You are absolutely right, might have to rethink one of these hammocks. I tried one out on one trip and found out that swinging in the breeze is not my idea of a good nights rest. Being able to set it up on the ground would be like a tarp with a built in bug screen. Here is my normal set up, gets pretty buggy sometimes. LOL

Swamprooter, you might want to look at one of the US Army cot bug nets. They are made to attach to the frame of a cot, and have small loops all around it to tie off to. You could easily use it to screen that open area to keep the bugs out. I'd bring a few plastic clamps along and clamp it to your tarp. They are very light, probably not a pound, and cheap.

I'll PM you a link to one on the auction site so you can see what it's like. I like your set-up, and a bug net would make it great in warm weather.

I never tried mine on the ground but I don't see why not. They have a great rain fly? Personally I like sleeping in it as a hammock but then I like sleeping on my boat at sea?

Without the rain fly...
