Thats great gota get one.
First time seeing one of these, I've been using the Seat-o-Pants harness for years.
I may have to give them a try.
Where do you get one? I am using a Seat of the Pants harness and was looking at the Spyder safe descent system to add on to my harness but maybe this is a better option.
This is the only harness that can be repacked and used again.
Since I spend a LOT of time sitting in a treestand in the fall, last year I decided to finally replace my old harness that I've been using for about 8 years. I looked at a lot of them and decided to go with the Gorilla G30.
It's heavy in the hand and is probably overkill, but if fits great, is easy to put on in the dark and you don't notice the weight sitting in the stand. I don't ever want to "test" a harness and I feel pretty confident that this one is built to really work....and hopefully never needed.
I bought mountain climbing ropes years ago and use them to make my tie-off ropes for my stand sites. They are designed to withstand the stress of a falling human. I use smaller diameter mountain climbing ropes to make the prussic hitches. I also make them up and give them to other hunters.
Be safe out there this season and never get in a tree without a harness.
Is that owner repackable or do you have to send it in to the company?
Hap
You repack it yourself.
This is the inside picture of the harness. (http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj10/longbowben/DSC07073.jpg)
I think it's a good thing that so many more people are using saftey harnesses these days. I just can't beleive the prices and all of the gadgets attached to them.
I use one that came with a gorrilla expedition stand(brown one) and always felt secure with it. If properly positioned I can't fall past my stand base.
Just seems like with added parts you add in more places to fail. Rob
Ok Rob just say when you fall and you break your arm or tear you shoulder out like one of my hunting buddyes did. This vest can save your life and for 159.99 its worth every penny. You dont have to fall past your stand to kill yourself because you cant climb down.
And i have had two hunting partners fall and both said that two foot fall is like Jack Lambert blindsiding you against the stand and tree.It happens so fast and you are not prepared.
Longbowben,
I just feel more comfortable with fewer failure points. Just my opinion. Didn't mean to ruffle any feathers. Rob
I have a feeling I'll be the test monkey with this come Saturday! :scared:
Rizzo on repel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
About six years ago near my home here a bowhunter was found dead hanging in his safety harness. He had died from suspension trauma. Had kicked his boots off. Stopping the fall is only part of the safety equation. You have to be able to get to the ground safely and as longbowben said if you have a broken arm or if the reason for your fall was stand failure the cds can save your life. Pricey, but I am ordering one.
Get ready my test monkey.
Harnesses are great but you also need a climbing rope or some such safety device to use while climbing in and out of your stand. Hooking yourself up to the tree after you're up is a no-brainer, but you've already passed the point of greatest risk when you got onto your stand. Here's a simple, inexpensive device you can use with any harness you may already have. www.safetreehunt.com (http://www.safetreehunt.com)
Great recommendation LBB! I wonder if this safety harness will work with The FallGuy 20 + Retractor System?

You're exactly right, Dave! I use The FallGuy system, so I can be connected from the moment I leave the ground until I get back down. It works great!
I cringe thinking about my early days with a Baker stand and "safety" belt! Got the scars to prove it too!
I heard that Swamp Yankee! I took several rides on the Baker slide myself years ago.
I bought one last year. I really should have spent the money on mud tires for my truck but thought my life was more important.
How do you get the fall guy attached on your first climb up the tree?
Jax,
I use my Seat O the Pants safety harness to climb the tree to attach the Fallguy to the tree. It's not a perfect way, as you have to unclip and re attach the harness from the tree before stepping on the stand, but it has worked for me.
If you have a straight tree with no limbs, you could climb the tree with a climber stand and harness to attach the Fallguy system- this way you would always be connected to the harness.
