Title: Sweating under arm guard Help
Post by: rluttrell on August 29, 2011, 11:59:00 PM
I love shooting traditional right down to the full leather arm guard. I have lined my arm guard with Deer skin, my problem I am getting a rash from sweating.  Do any of you guys have this problem and what have you done to help?
Thanks

Monkey Butt powder from Tractor Supply. I suppose that good ol' baby powder would work just as good.

How about punching some holes in the leather to  cool your arm?

Did you consider your rash might be a reaction to the tanning solution in the leather or does it happen with all arm guards?

Cut the toes out of an old sock. Slide it on your arm where the arm guard goes won't help with sweat but might prevent the rash. Just use the part from the ankle up.

I just recently punched out holes where it was possible. I didn't want to punch out any to where the sting could hit the arm.
This is the second arm guard; it is the 1st that I lined with deer skin thinking that would fix the problem.
I don't think it's the tanning or dye, I used it for 30 minutes and took it off and it was already soaked. It actually fits well on my arm or should I say it lays flat. I will try baby powder, I just didn't know enough about leather and wasn't sure if it was ok using powder.

The powder should be OK on the leather but you may get a buildup after a while.

Turn your hand and shoot without it.

I am new to archery and actually tried that. My thoughts were it would teach me good form and how much could it hurt anyway; all was good until the string slapped my arm breaking the skin.  I just stared at my arm thing how dumb was that?

I like a leather armguard but they can get wet underneath. So for shooting on hot days I use a old Saunders plastic armguard,do half to worry about my leather armguards.

What kinda bow do you shoot?  You should be able to go without it with a curve but a hill style it is as needed as a glove.  Primose makes a plastic one that is great for hot weather. I usually don,t use a leather one until the temps get below 90 degrees. Right now its102!

Oh yeah arm contact can be too low of brace height on the bow which can be a rookie mistake.  At least i made that one.

I would try another arm guard. The most comfortable pair of shoes I own are too warm for summer. Switch it up man.

Try a anti perspirant on your skin. I like the sock thing also.

Yes my brace height was low. I have made many mistakes trying to learn from each one.

I have to tell you guys thank you, after using some macho baby powder (Johnsons and Johnson's none-scented) my problem was gone. I was kept my arm guard on for 3 to 4 hours and no more problems.
