Title: You call that a footing?
Post by: Davie C. on August 29, 2011, 01:47:00 AM
525 grains wasn't cutting it, so I initially thought that putting on long footing would allow me to put more weight up front.

Don't ask me how, but I guess these (really old) 2219 footings weigh so much that they canceled out the increased stiffness that they undoubtedly lend to the first 10 inches of the arrow. These bareshafted exactly like when they had no footing at all! Thats free forward-of-center weight with no noticeable effect on dynamic spine! Anyway, I'm up to around 700 grains now, and these look pretty indestructible to boot

Take a look! More testing to come tomorrow morning...

Good grief.  I footed some GT 5575s with two inches(ish) of 2219.  Really perked up the way they fly as well as added a bit of heft.  I like it.  First time I tried it.  Those look like they would be pretty darn tough and have some real punch.

:scared:  Interesting to say the least. What carbon shaft is that?

The shafts are 31" ICS 300's. I forgot to mention that obviously draw up past the footing to a full draw. I made the edge smooth so it doesn't snag while drawing.

This is why I love trad so much! I can do things that would make compound guys look at you funny like shoot dowels with nuts at one end or have ridiculous FMJ tank-buster arrows as a real setup.

"Arrow Girdles", keep your arrow figure smooth slim and sexy! LOL! I just had to say it. Looks like it would be tough as nails.
