Alright, so I have been reading through all the threads comparing and contrasting gloves and tabs. Obviously there are a lot of different opinions about which shoots better.
Well, what I am wondering is which is better for slapping them damn mosquitoes when you are out in the woods?!! I am pretty new to trad and I started with a tab. When I am out these days in the woods there are always lots of mosquitoes that I am trying to swat at and smack.
So just wondering what you guys think is better for fighting back against the bloodsuckers.
Well being from Minnesota our state bird pretty much is the mosquito. I feel that a glove is better because it is form fitting and is on your fingers. A tab has a lot of variables involved, aerodynamics is one, then there is the "what if it flops at the moment of truth? " I am biased in that I prefer a glove but I still see all the advantages with a glove compared to a tab.
For me, it's easy to sum up.
For mosquitoes, it's a glove. For shooting arrows, it's a tab.
We're having a severe drought this year with very high temperatures. We don't have the mosquito problem this year like we normally have because of the drought. Everything is bone dry here where I live.
It's going to be another dry and hot 104-105 degree day here.
Get a Therma cell and it won't matter.
I'm with SwampWarrior on this one... I believe tabs would give more of a fanning effect. Gloves are definitely key to proper mosquito termination.
On a side note... Does thermacell qualify for traditional mosquito hunting? (clearly my first choice, but was only given two options) :D
I'm with Bill. While your're slapping, deer are running for cover! Thermacell is the word.
Minnesota guys are the EXPERTS!!
I have just switched to a glove from tabs and I can honestly say that the ONLY thing gloves are good for is shooting a bow. You can't tie your shoes, or eat an apple, or pick your nose, or pick up dropped money, or get your keys out of your pocket. Maybe karate chop a skeet, maybe. But if you wait until the creature is so full of your blood he is slow in taking off, the tab will definitely remember the experience.

I second that!
Are the Little Suckers, pardon the pun  , too tough for "Deep Woods Off"?? :scared:
Night Wing. I'm with you love shooting with my tab. Sorry for the heat down there. Grew up in Louisiana/Texas. I miss it in the winter but not the summer. It was 65 this morning.

:biglaugh:
Tabs provide a much smoother release when removing a squashed mosquito.
Applying a little scentless powder to the tab prior to the hunt will provide an even smoother squashed mosquito release.
Ooooh....I never heard of using unscented powder for better release. Haha!
I like the way shooting with a tab feels for me, but I have a feeling that gloves would be superior for a consistent, accurate, and repeatable mosquito smacking implement.
Anybody been busted by game while they were trying to slap a mosquito in the woods?
What is thermacell?
I've definitely been known to use some "Off" and tried plenty of different mosquito products when I used to live in Costa Rica.
