Will the new Bear Super Grizzly stack at my 29.5" draw length?
Also does anyone know what the AMO speed of this bow is? It uses a Dynaflight 97 string according to the Bear specs.
At 58" in length and with your 29.5" draw length, I'm guessing you're not going to find this bow "smooth drawing" when you draw it to your anchor point.
I figure it won't be as smooth drawing as I am used to with my 64" Black Widow MAV, but I really am just concerned about stacking real bad. I want a one piece recurve to play around with and use for hunting from ground blind. I don't want to spend the dollars for another BW or a Bob Lee. The Bob Lee would be my 1st choice for a 1 piece recurve.
I'm not a fan of production made bows because I have a 30" draw length. Those extra 2" of draw on a 28" production made bow have never felt good to me.
If you can find a custom bowyer that will build you a bow at the poundage you want at your draw length for the same amount of money the Super Grizzly costs, if it was me, I'd go the custom bowyer route.
Also, I think you may have an issue with "finger pinch" with your draw length on a 58" recurve.
I shoot a Damon Hewett Martin Hunter which draws well to 30." The bow is 62" and is priced only a little more than a Bear Griz. I've owned both, have your draw length, and the Hunter may be a better choice for your draw length.
Short answer - yes it will stack and be plenty noticeable too.
Long answer - I draw to 29" and have shot a lot of bows. You can do just fine with the shorter bow (make sure they warranty it to your draw length if buying new though - many only warranty to 29" on 58" bows). I can shoot the 58" (and shorter) bows just fine and they feel ok. However when I pick up my 62" Howatt (Martin) Hunter it is obviously smoother (no stacking) and feels better than the shorter bows. It is also faster at my draw because it is built to handle my draw. I am also more accurate with it on average (especially farther out), probably because it fits me better. I was in the same boat as you with the ground blind situation and looking for a shorter bow (the Hunter was my first traditional bow). In the end I just adapted everything to my Howatt Hunter and called it a day. I just shoot it too good compared to the shorter bows to give it up! As to the AMO speed on the Grizzly I don't know, but it will likely be a little less efficient and consistent at your draw than your longer bow that is built for your draw length. It will work, but you will undoubtedly sacrifice some comfort and shootability.
My 58" bow is now my carp bow and it excels in that role (shooting under 25 yards while keeping the bottom limb out of the water).
an inch and a half past factory draw and FINGER PINCH... Really are you guessing again??! you will not experience any finger pinch at 29.5 come on...
I don't have one myself but my shooting buddy has a new Super Grizz that is 50 lbs. Suprisingly it does not seem to stack much at my 29.5" draw when I shoot it. I like bows that are in the 60-64" length but his Super Grizz is really comfortable to shoot for me. The only thing I can think is that the short riser and longer working limb might help with the geometry. If you can get your hands on one you may want to shoot it - that's probably the best option to make sure it will fit you.
As for speed, we put a new skinny string and tuned some gold tips on his and it seems surprisingly fast. I can't really tell a whole lot of difference between his bow and my older dacron 60 lb custom bows.
If you want a short bow that does not stack out to 31"s look for a used RER Arroyo in any length even 54"s will handle your draw easily without pinch or stacking. The 58"er would be perfect and can be had used for $350-400. I have to agree the SG will stack pretty good once ya get to 29"s, I would say over 29"s it will go to 5#s an inch easily. Shawn
