I`m sure this one`s been beat to death. Other than Seal skin ( since we can`t get it anymore ) what`s the best shelf material out there ?
Burch
If you like a soft rest, which is what seal skin is, you might try a Martin rug rest.
I use velcro.....
Velcro, the soft side works really well, Bears rug, works great, easily gotten from several sponsors here. There is a thick felt one that came on my recurve that is really good, wish I could remember the exact name of it. Maybe someone with a bit better memory will pick this up and chime in?
Thanks,
Velcro for me. It's durable and silent when drawing an arrow.
Industrial velcro, the regular wears pretty quick. Wally-World has it in grey and black! Shawn
I found a lamb's wool girth cover at a flea market for $5. I cut it into shelf size rugs then trim the wool to about 1/8" tall with hair trimmers. I have a lifetime supply of material now for shelving rugs.
I used the #0 attachment for trimming down the wool.
I have one of those little round felt furniture foot pads, cut to shape, on my Browning. It seems to work pretty well.
Woops. Double tap.
Velcor for me...quiet and last a long time.
Another vote for Velcro.
Here here for the velcro! Wears like iron!

I like the soft side stick on velcro--- a tip--- I like to use a disposable razor and shave it down first. it helps keep your fletching from catching.
I like calfskin, but Velcro is hard to beat.
Beaver tail for me
alot of guy i know use the good 3m velcro. not the fuzzy side but the catch side. try it out!
I`ve always used Velcro myself but ya gotta admit, it does seem to drag a bit. I`ve never tried Seal Skin but think about it - definatley water proof, seems like it would be pretty slick & smooth. I wonder if Otter Skin would be a good idea ?

Same for me!
calf hair for me.
lambs wool here also..........it just never wears out............
Calf hair for me. It's the slickest since the seal skin is no longer available.
I use leather or a rug. I like leather pretty good.

I use calf skin and seal skin. My longbow, custom made in Estonia, came with sealskin on the shelf. They probably still hunting seals there.

I'm loking for a good matching sideplate material now.
I like the bear archery rug shelf kit, its lasted the longest for me and looks good too.

same for me.
I used to use Velcro but have switched to smooth leather.
there is no "best" shelf material, only the stuff that works "best" for you. lots of good stuff to try out, i usually do female velcro for the shelf bottom and super thin leather for the shelf arrow plate.
I have some kangaroo, that I will try, but still have some seal skin I bought years ago.
The soft side of velcro
