G'day all,
Well... I have a hankeren for a new widow, and I am haven some troubles working out to run with the old faithful PSA or... try the new PCH... your thoughts please?
Also... I have seen a lot of bows made of late with a whole range of timber options. Lots of those with the 'no red glass' option... that I am keen on. So... post away please of some fine take down widders!
Many thanks,
ak.
Al, I have had an SA, that got turned-into a PSA, and now have the PCH which I find just as easy and accurate at 60" as the old girl was at 62".

VERY NICE, WHAT IS THE RISER WOOD.
A darker shade of Pau Ferro.
Here's my PLX. I know you're looking for a 3-piece, but take a look at the spalted sycamore on the limbs. I love it. Riser and nose overlay are cocobolo.

That is a wicked-lookin' PLX!
I don't have a Widow on hand, but here's a big stack of plywood......

Rob, I guess that was a joke, right?
Us Widow lovers are a sensitive bunch.
I can't see much plywood in the bows shown, Rob.
Rob thats low :nono:
Robert,
Bad mouth the BW Bow Company all you want. The product is bullet proof and customer service is top shelf. Oh...and their % of resale value is higher than anybody elses...
BTW....your domain name expired on 8/7/11...time to renew.
 Somebody hit a verve.....Rob!!!
All in good fun, I'm sure, no harm meant
Is there some kind of inside joke that I'm missing? For what it's worth, I find their materials and craftsmanship to be top notch.
Archie
**EDITED**
Sorry Archie, no jokes from me, I just found trad mans response to rob's post humorous. I completely agree that the craftsmanship and materials are top notch. And I do like the spalted sycamore very much.
Y'all can't take a joke? Sheesh. Tough room.....
Easy lads... I get Rob's joke... it's a brit thing....lol...
Anyhow... we always beat 'em in Rugby!
Now... more pics please!
There are a plethora of both magnificently appealing and awe inspiring bows being created these days.
While not a BW shooting fan of the past, I have always favored their design, physical wt .and great curb appeal.
My past poor experience was not the bow's fault, but a grip mismatch. After years of contemplating and finally test running and determining a much more compatible grip, I yielded and now own a beautiful PCH X. She is proving to be me more comfortable than many longer bows I've owned and/or tested. Sometimes I am obstinate when chronically determined to fit the square plug in the round hole. I must have gotten lucky because it now fits beautifully.
Just a little side note on Widows being considered "bombproof". In June I was in Quebec for Bear Quest V. One evening a bunch of us were chewing the fat and someone asked Bowdoc if he could only have one bow what would he have. Bowdoc is a walking encyclopedia of archery history and equipment along with being one of the top, if not the best, at restoring and refinishing FINE bows. He's had his hands on more great bows than any of us ever will. Bowdocs favorite bows of all time are the Grayling takedowns.
I was alittle suprised when he said if he were going a a trip of a lifetime, perhaps Africa, where you couldn't have you're bow let you down. He'd be packing a Widow. That says alot

Rob, is that a stack of Osage, Olive Ash, Myrtle or Yew :goldtooth:
Rob,you know Widows are vertically stacked, not horizontally. No wonder you got the Spider crowd in a up roar!
lol - c'mon that was funny.
Curly Bubinga PCH 54# @ 28" 56" limbs.

Liked my PSA, love my PCH! Throws a 600gn arrow nicely. Thinking about a set of heavier limbs for it too.

:clapper:
Just like "Why did the chicken cross the road? To get to the other side!", this "joke" never gets old. It is an absolute classic.
Ben,
I favor this one 'Why did the chicken cross the road and decided to cross back?'
Wow... some nice pics there. Thanks also Ben, always good to here an aussie's point of view.
Post away some more please lads...
ak.
Al,
It ain't a 'curve but here is my old t/d in 'ash ' PLX ... (http://i411.photobucket.com/albums/pp200/benmaher3006/widow.jpg) (http://i411.photobucket.com/albums/pp200/benmaher3006/widdow2.jpg)
Mind you I just 'sidegraded' to an all Osage PLX ......
I'll post pics of it when it turns up...
Ben Maher! I know the feeling! Just when I think I have had enough of Black Widow longbows, I start thinking about another... Too funny, mate!
Ben K ... when Liz complains about my new bows I lay all the blame on my so named Northern counterpart .....
We need an all Aussie Widow shoot !
Rob,
I own 3 widows and your joke made me laugh.
Of course the only woodie recurve I own that doesn't have layers of wood and fiberglass is an all metal riser. If I had a picture of a junk car (before it is recycled) I'd post it.
I don't imagine even the most beautiful of custom bows would look like much if one viewed the pile of raw material that goes into making one?
For our poster friend: I have the PSAIII, PCHX, and PAX. All are 58# and 46-47 draw weight. My favorite of the Widow pile is the graceful PAX.
Of course my bows are cut from the left side of the tree so I get the purtiest grain the tree has to offer.
I've had a pile of Widows. I'll just post pics of my 4 favorites for you.

That yew/cocobolo PLX is one of the prettiest I've ever seen. What a stunner!

I don't know where you get your information, but that stack of plywood isn't all that big. I've seen bigger stacks.
Check the mills before you post - geez...
Thanks Mooseman for your pics mate. Gotta love Osage... but I think I like the looks of Zircote (spelling) with no red in the riser or limbs.

That last PLX cocobolo / osage is spectacular!

Hey Ben, it is actually yew limbs on that PLX. They are yew throughout, no bamboo cores. I really think they are some special yew limbs, I haven't seen any others like it...Mike
Sorry! I should've read better than that!
