I have been tossing around the idea of getting a tipi for a while now, and decided to bite the bullet and just do it.
I was looking for something that I can primarily use for hunting out of and is easily packable, which equates into lightweight.
I got serious about buying one back in May, and it has been a pleasure researching all the different kinds out there. I settled on a Seekoutside http://seekoutside.com/ 8 man taupe (sp) colored tipi, liner and a large titanium stove. I ordered it tonight, and was told it should be delivered in 4-6 weeks.
I'm looking forward to doing a full review once I get it and get to do some hunting out of it.
I made a deal with my wife. I told her that I would paint the inside of the house and do stained oak crown moldings in exchange for me buying a tipi. She was a little hesitant untill she saw how excited my 6 and 7 yr old boys got when they heard about it. I have wanted a tipi since my dad first introduced me to western movies 35 years ago. I'm just looking forward to having some very comfortable nights in hunting camp. I might even take it down to Hog Heaven in March for the St. Jude Hog Hunt.
Well, I was going to ask who you were going to get yer poles from..... but as I see, this is a Tipi of a different "color" and ya don't need poles.
Good luck with the tent. It looks pretty cool.
Sounds like your wife won! Painting, moulding, and you're taking the boys.....lol.
Looking forward to your review.
Your "easily packable" statement made me do a double take. This is what I have in mind when someone talks about tipi's.
26' poles ain't easy to pack. :D
A night shot of my tipi.

nice looking tipi, that's what I thought whenever I heard the word tipi untill I started looking at all the options. Mine will have a 21st century look to it. I wanted something that would allow me to leave the camper at home, and get further back into the wilderness, and still keep a couple comforts of home.
Mike, i am very excited for you. I am very much looking forward to hearing about you new tipi and stove. Both items are on my list of things to buy but i cant seem to make a decision on which company to go with.
By the way, i think your wife got the better end of the deal.
That is cool Mike. I hope to see it a shoot next year. Congrats.
Chuck
Will be looking forward to full reviews after some use!
You are going to enjoy camping that way,if you ever finish your chore

Hey Mike,
That is a fine looking lodge you have purchased. It looks light enought to pack in if you wanted to hunt the back country. Roomy, light and a quick set up, pretty nice man!
Bob.
Nice tipi, Mike. And packable, too! Enjoy it.
is it true that a tipi that is very big doesn't hold as many people as you would think? is there a guidline in determining the size (in the real world not the tent world where they think people are packed in like sardines)
Pretty cool Mike, never even saw that company when I was looking. It looks much nicer than what I got! I ended up with a Golite Shangri La 3 person (aka 2 people who are pretty comfortable hanging out close together!). Good thing you got the 8 person maybe I can tag along to one of your sweet hunting spots with you.

Nice rig, Mike...a bit more headroom, eh? Y'all should have a blast

We would love to have you join us. You are a MLA member aren't you? I will probably be doing a December hunt somewhere up north, just not to sure where at yet. November will find my oldest and I in Texas hunting hogs and exotics. PM me and there is another hunt I can fill you in on if your interested.
Looks great How did you find that company and what else did you look at
I found them by looking thru the Internet. I looked at the Kifaru, Sportsmen's Guide (even looked at one last week and found it to be the equivalent of blue poly tarps), and even a traditional canvas tipi. I compared all of them and made my mind up on which would better suit my needs and went with it. Hopefully when it arrives, it will be exactly what I wanted, and I do believe it will be that and more.
What the price tag on the whole set up I'm always looking for good backpacking stuff ? Could not fine price on stove ?
huntschool i got my tipi poles from wi. noisy creek adventure
Prices are all on the Seekoutside website. Just click on the product to want and scroll down. Click on the buy now tab to get pricing.
I can say that the price is relative, and is in the middle of the road (price wise) when comparing all the different tipies out there. And if you were just going by information available online, Seekoutside is tops in quality. Only time will tell. If you want good quality, you have to pay for it.
I looked at it from the prospective of buyin a new longbow. I could make one, and it might shoot OK, but I could buy an awesome custom one and have the quality be second to none. I opted not to make my own tipi for obvious reasons, and I wasn't about to spend $200 on a Sportsmen's Guide one and be completely unhappy.

Good seeing you today. Hope the storm was easy on all of you at Land O Lakes. I ran into quite a storm headed home. I had actually bumped into that website looking for a titanium stove. I am very eager to see yours in action and hear what you think of it. Did you see the rollup SS stove? That is certainly a new twist! Like you, I have been looking at the Kifaru 8 man for a long time but have not be able to bring myself to cough up the money. Your kids are going to love it!
i got one from blue star tipis over 20 yrs ago great fun my kids were 11 and 7 took it to many shoots inoregon and ca still have it however the poles are gone it was a 16 ft model trucked it around on my ladder rack one time at a rendevu had alittle fire and pete george came and told us indian stories pete are you out there
I have a coulpe kifarus, and love them....however, these guys have done it up right. The extra screen standard would have been a huge selling point for my wife!
enjoy that tipi! itll be a blast, I have boys those ages too and they love it.

Yes Steve, it was nice runnin into to you as well. As for the storm, we got hammered with rain but little if any wind. We did luck out and that would of been a good storm to check the watertightness of the tipi.
I did see the rollup SS one, but saw a few video reviews on both and talked with a couple guys who each had one or the other and opted for the titanium one.
I know that comparing the 2 is like comparin apples to oranges (same product only different, I that makes sence) the Seekoutside is right about $500 less than the Kifaru if you bought an 8 man tipi, liner and large stove.
