Hi, i am looking to buy a new recurve and am wondering about some of the bear, kodiaks, super kodiacs, and kodiak hunter.I have a 30 inch draw so the question i have to any out there that shoot or have shot these models is,will they stack bad past a 28 inch draw?Most of the kodiaks and supers i have found are short,52" inches i believe, and the one kodiak hunter i am looking at is 60 inches.I know string pinch will be bad on shorter bows but i shoot a 60 inch #50 recurve now and the pinch is not a problem for me.I am mostly concerned about it stacking with my long draw.I anchor with my thumb joint behind my jaw so i guess i could change to corner of mouth but i hate to mess with how i have always shot since a kid.

Only the Kodiak Magnum is 52". The the rest were [are] 60",62"&64".
The old Kodiaks and Super Kodiaks were built in 64-inch lengths as well as 60 inches. The new Super kodiak is only built in 60 inches, I believe. You're much better off with a 64-inch or longer bow with a 30-inch draw, imo. Smoother draw with less stack and less finger pinch.
A 30" draw is a great reason to look at a custom bow from one of our bowyer/sponsors.
i shoot a kodiak hunter it is a 60" bow and I have a 29" draw~ no problems for me. However I would agree with the above and personaly I would find something a little longer. Have you shot one yet? that is the best way to know for sure. I am fortunate enough to live close to bear archery and I know they will let you demo anything they have.
try it first and see how you like it.

No i havnt shot any bear bows since i was a kid.The bow i shoot now is a martin and it is 60" and #50 at 28" and it gives me no troubles at all but one of my sons has laid claim to it,lol.Ordering a custom would be great but is a bit past my means right now.A friend of mine years ago had a Black widow take down that i dearly loved, one day i hope to have one of those.I have been watching the used bows here though and may find something that i can afford sooner or later.
I bet that 60"er will start gaining 4-5#s after 29"s per inch, the older one did. I agree that for the price of a new Bear you could get a new bow from a bowyer that would be built for you and designed to handle your draw. Shawn
Yes,it does get a hard spot much after about 28",thats what i call stack,,im not sure if thats the correct term or not.I used to have a custom Cox take down when i was in my 20's, it had 65# at 28" limbs but was a longer bow and it was no harder for me to hold at full draw than my 50# bow.I dont have any problems shooting heavy bows but i cant tell much diffrence in how they shoot at 30 yards and under that i hunt at and i like to shoot bare handed and a 65# bow near about takes the meat off your fingers with no glove or tab, lol.The bear bows im looking at are not new ones,,some used ones i have found on several sites so they are under the $200 range.I have seen several nice bows her on TG for sale that look like they may fit me good in the $250 - $350 range though.
You would be hard pressed to do better than a Martin Hunter if you can find a used one. Good performer and their length is 62" which I think is about perfect for a 30" draw.
Charlie, i looked up a picture of the martin hunter and that is my kind of bow for sure. Has a grip shape that i prefere.Ill look around and see if i can find one.Thanks for all the help guys.
