Title: The Muzzy Shoot...a young gun, an old veteran, and some divine intervention...
Post by: Guru on August 16, 2011, 09:17:00 PM
There's a whole lot to share...And I hope some other will add their's...

But right off the bat I'd like to congratulate my boy Cade(the young gun) for winning the youth division for the second year straight!

TG'r Ken(KAT) Thornhill(the old veteran) for winning the senior division for I think the 3rd year in a row.

And TG'r Jeff(mint)Milano for his win of the recurve division and then going on to win the overall championship...you my friend were not walking those mountains alone!

I'll let Jeff tell his story...

Just about all the pictures I have to share are of my boy. So here goes...

The pic I've taken every year he's been going...
•    (http://www.tradgang.com/upload/curt/P1080400muzzy11.JPG)

Then of course before the competition even started he had to try White #1 a poke over the pond...

•    (http://www.tradgang.com/upload/curt/P1080402muzzy11.JPG)

I was out shooting my first round while he was shooting the youth muzzy course, so no pix the first day of it. But during my bye round I got to watch him shoot the 3d's...

•    (http://www.tradgang.com/upload/curt/P1080416muzzy11.JPG)

I believe he made kill zone shots on 3 out of 5, and the other two were pretty close!

After the first day he had a pretty good lead...

More tomorrow...

Love those custom arrows. Congrats

My son went with me for years and thosevwere great father-son outings. He is now married with 2degrees.  Archery taught him honor.  I notice your son keeps his foot against the stake. Responsibility turns into honor!,

Curt, most every time I saw you at the Muzzy Cade was by your side, it is so awesome that you spend time with you son like that. Just ask him in 10 years what he got for Christmas eight years ago, bet he wont remember but he will never forget the time he spent with his Dad, bravo for you two. Congratulations Cade for the good shooting and to Dad for doing it right.

Cade is a fine young man and great shooter as well as a pleasre to be around but after all Curt is his dad and the apple does not fall from the tree.  Have enjoyed watching Cade grow and and shoot so well over the last few years and look forward to seeing him move thru the ranks at the Muzzy Stump Shoot as well as achieving success at his 1st big game animal very soon!  Congrats Cade!
Curt better pick up that recurve again, I think it just fits you better and look to see ya on top again.
Jeff congrats on your win/win, could not happen to a finer fellow and know you have been working towards that for a long time.
Lot's of excitement, upsets, changes, turnarounds and suprises at this year's stump shoot and thankful for the rain holding off and look forward to seeing ya'll next year.  Congrats to all those that participated and good luck with your seasons.

Now all that we needed was the scores to be tallied. He was a little nervous because on of the other boys shot really well the second day as well...

So we ate a quick burger and headed out with Gary K. to shoot in the "Tony Award" competition. Just before we headed out Cade ran over to check the boards...he had defended his title!

We were on cloud nine as we hit the woods for the "Tony"....

Good photographers know that a vertical is usually more interesting than a horizontal. It isn't OUR fault that there is no provision in any photography software for vertical videos!

Now this young man here(gray shirt, curly hair) is absolutely one of the finest archers I have ever seen! I've watched young John Coulon grow up first dominating the youth division, then dominating the Junior division(I think he won by 50 points this year)! Next year he's actually able to stay in juniors, but wants to move up into the mens division...look out fellas, he's gonna make his mark!

Thanks Curt i really appreciate it. As your title suggests their was divine intervention. As a lot of the Muzzy shooters know we lost Carl Moller to leukemia last November. The last shoot he attended was muzzy even though he wasn't strong enough to shoot. Carl wasa Muzzy fanatic and never missed a shoot since 1988 I believe. We would talk about it all the time and couldn't wait for the second weekend in August to come around. Last year while up at muzzy he said to me "Don't worry I will be here next year with you"
On the drive up my wife could tell something was bothering me and knew I was thinking of Carl. She said "Carl will be with us at the shoot" My wife hasa lot more faith than me so I just nodded my head.
On Saturday it was Carl's 54th Birthday and i had that on my mind when i started shooting with William. I had a great time shooting with Darius and Don Ferraro and was able to stay in it. The next day I before I started shooting with Michael Vincent i said a silent prayer that i hoped Carl was with me today since i needed his help to keep me calm. Every year this is where i crap out, right before the trophy rounds. Well it was head to head and when Michael hit "Thread the Needle" to tie it up I knew i was in trouble. He was on a roll and I was as nervous as I could be. As i sat down on the rock I could here carl speak to me that I could make this shot and have in the past. Of course for those of you that know Carl he said it with a a word i can't print here. We both missed the first shot but mine was so close i knew i would get it on my next shot and did to win the round. It was great shooting with Michael. Next was shooting with Steve Stivaly and Carl was with me doing that round too and it really calmed me down. Same with shooting with Keith Barber and winning it on the last shot on red where they swapped the chair with the new stump. It was great shooting against such nice guys as Steve and Keith.
Shooting the overall round with Manny was going to be a problem though. I never shot it before and we wouldn't be going out by ourselves but with a crowd. My heart was beating like crazy. Stepping up to shoot over the pond on white target one I asked Carl to send me a sign that he was still with me and I could here him say "Just shut up and Shoot" and when I hit that block I knew I had the momentum on my side. Talking to Carl kept me focused and calmed me down enough that i could win. Shooting with Manny was great and was an honor to shoot against him. To win the longbow division in his first ever Muzzy is just amazing to me and i have no doubt he would have beat me if Carl wasn't with me. Once again I'd like to thank everyone and it means so much to win this year for my buddy Carl.

And Curt I have no doubt Ken Coulons son and Cade will be battling out in future Muzzy competitions for the title. Both their concentration and perfect form are amazing to watch.
