Hey Gang,
As some of you know, my hunting partner and I are working on a traditional bowhunting dvd. Since we spent a bunch of money on video equipment we decided to make use of it and film other things, such as "how to videos" to share with the hunting community.
Here's one on how I like to tie on cat whiskers. There are many ways to tie them on it's just the way I prefer to do it. If you use cat whiskers too and would like to learn how I tie them, check out this video.

SL
Enjoyed, looking forward to more.
:clapper: Very Well Done!
Bill
Nice method and good video Ryan....thanks.
Well Done!I too thought the method of securing the whisker will make it better for me. Thanks Maxx
Ryan,
Thanks for the great informative video! Your method is a lot less wasteful than the way I have been installing them.
Ryan thanks from an old young gu. Keep it up
Real nice video. Clear and concise.
On a sidenote. On my Blacktails, I've found a pair of home made yarn wool puffs are quieter than a shortened pair of catwhiskers.
Since you've got video equipment, have you thought about doing a "how to make your own home made yarn wool puffs and install" video?
Ryan thanks from an old young gu. Keep it up
Thanks Ryan, well done indeed
Excellent...always wondered how you guys made those perfect little wisker balls on the string.
Thanks!
Very nice Ryan!
Good job Ryan....thanks!
Wonderful,Wonderful, Wonderful! Great video and I was woundering how to tie the knot so it would not come undone. Thanks, Ken
Thanks for sharing
Thanks Ryan, Well done video. Will give it a try.
Thanks Ryan, it's the little things like the cinch knot that helps make the process easier.
Great job Ryan keep it up.
Nice video Ryan.
Great......
Excellent video and some good tips.
Great video! Thanks a bunch!
Great instructional video.Thanks.
I have to try that knot, whenever mine are able to slide on the string like that within 2 days of shooting they are gone, they just fall out strand by strand. Nice video!
Good video. Thanks for sharing.
Very nice "How to"
Looking foward to more!!
Great info! Sure helps! 'Cause I'm all thumbs when it comes to this sort of thing!
awsome. thanks for the vid ill have to give that a try
WOW! Thanks for all the kind words gang! I really appreciate it! I'm glad you guys found it informative.
Night Wing, I'll be more than happy to do one on wool puffs, it's just that I would need to learn how to make them first. I'll try to do some research. Thanks for the input.
Aloha!
Ryan
Too say the least, nothing wrong with that instructional video, LOL!
Clear, concise, professional... congratulations Ryan!
(Hmmm... a handy tip from a young guy... shhhh... LOL!)
Thanks!
It's the best way I have seen.
Bob
Great video Ryan!! Thanks for sharing!
Great job on the video!
Thank you
Thanks for that video, Ryan. That's the best "how to" video I've seen in a while. Very well done.
Great video, tried it already works great thanks
Quality instruction. Thanks Ryan. Now, to really improve, get your beautiful wife to do the demonstrations! :D
Mike
Thanks guys!
dirtman,
I'm glad that it worked for you!!!
Mike,
I was wondering why the KUIU booth was so busy.... :D
Gang,
Let me know if I can help with any questions. Ryan K. and I will probably do a video on adjustable string nocks next.
Ryan S.
Ryan,
Looks great and it seems you had fun putting it together. Like your composure under camera!!!
Billy

The only problem with those yarn balls is they look like dead rats when they get wet.
Great Knot you are using on the first cinch Ryan. :clapper: i gotta give that one a try.
Thanks!
Wow great video! I'm gonna give that a try. Thanks!
Very sharp and clean video. Nicely done.
Very well done......great job!!
Very well done video. Just seems to be a little overkill on how many times you tie the knots...and they slide anyway. I like to put mine thru the string to keep them in place.
Very well done.
I always wanted to know how to get the whiskers "puffy" like that - mine always kinda would lay limp.
Thx!
Thanks Gang!!!
LA Trapper,
I appreciate the kind words. Being on camera is 10 times harder than I thought!!!!
Koko Bow,
Please keep in mind that I'm using the thicker, round strand cat whiskers. Trying to get the thinner strand cat whiskers to "puff up" is a little more difficult.
Thanks,
Ryan
Great job Ryan!
Wow, I've been doing it poorly for decades! This was one of the most helpful posts for me since I signed on Trad Gang! I recently traded bows with RW. RW sent the bow with a string that had perfect Cat Whiskers on it. I had no idea how he did it but now I think I know!
Thank-you
Bowwild,
You're welcome! I'm glad it helped, it's the reason we spend so much time putting these things together.
Aloha!
Ryan
Ryan, that was great! Good luck to you,Randy
Very timely for me as I have a couple of strings to "re-whisker". NOW, I have an idea of what to do.
Well done, good humour too.
Thanks.
From Nova Scotia to Hawaii...love it! Wouldn't Alexander Graham Bell be shocked?!
Well done Ryan! Those knots are key.
Nice job on the video bud, even learned a few tricks myself although we do it in a very similar way, but will use a clothespin for sure from now on. One of those "why didn't I think of that" moment for sure. Sweet!
I just ordered about 25ft of fine rubber skirt material in different colors so will be putting alot of this to use very soon!
Holler if you don't have a source for material and I can hook ya up, very inexpensive and can get it in regular and fine thickness as well as in many colors.
5 different 5ft lengths of 1in wide material with S/H only cost me about $17.
For a great tutorial on doing yarn puffs look for the one that Apex Predator did on this site awhile back, it was very good!
Ryan, Great video, very school teacher like.. LOL I just did your method and even managed to master the cinch knot.LOL (took me a few tries) They came out really nice and work fantastic on my recurve.. This is my new Best way from now on. Thanks, Job well done..
Glad I could help Tom!
Thanks Snag,
Hawaii to Nova Scotia! Thanks to Trad Gang!!!
Hey Mark,
I'll be sure to contact you about those rubber skirt materials. Thanks for the offer. Really appreciate it!
Buckwheaties,
I guess you know what I do for a living. LOL! I'm glad it worked!
Thanks again for all the kind words. I'll be sure to post more videos in the future!
Aloha!
Ryan
very nice
Im installing a new string next week end and will be using these (and your tip)
Thanks
Ryan,
Great video! I'm looking forward to your HI video when it comes out.
Have you ever tried using cable ties (zip ties) instead of serving thread? They would be a few grains heavier but would serve the same purpose and would eliminate several steps from your system. Just a thought.
I've used small zip ties in the past but wasn't happy with them. This method is much better IMO..
