Title: Wisconsin help anyone?
Post by: Red4arm on August 13, 2011, 08:37:00 PM
I'm heading up Marinette county Wisconsin the end of October. I live in Tn and my neighbor has two cabins up there. He invited me up to do some grouse hunting. He doesn't deer hunt. I plan on bird hunting a few days and then bow hunting some. Looks like there is tons of public land to hunt. Just wondered if anyone could point me in the right direction. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks  in advance.

Might not be a bad idea to see if your nieghbor has a current Marinette co. plat book.  That will show all the property in the county that is open to hunting.  If you get good weather the end of October should be good in terms of pre-rut activity.

Excellent hunting in Marinette with lots of farms.  I live about 50 miles to the west.  Platt book is a great suggestion and yes there is plenty of state land in the county.

Ditto the plat book idea. I hunt one county away from marinette county (counties are big this far north) so I know there is plenty of good county land. PM me if interested.

Also pick up the Wisconsin Atlas and Gazetteer.  Normally can pick them up at gas stops and all sporting stores probably also online. This has all the public hunting lands. The Wisconsin DNR also has a great online public lands site with aerials. Very nice site.

Grouse populations are up. walk slowly through grouse habitat and you will have a blast. you can get shooting at both deer and grouse.

Im with Crazy Charlie. One of my favorite hunts ever was a moose hunt turned grouse hunt. With the exception of deer, grouse are my favorite. Especially bowhunting them.

Be sure to include a can of cream of mushroom soup, bay leaves, makings for dumplings, pepper, a little white wine, etc. Grouse are great table fair.

I have a cabin in Beecher and my Father-in-law has a cabin in Amberg.  Grouse hunting has been AWESOME the last few years, should be good again.  Plenty of places to go hunting, I have most of my hunting career trying to figure out deer hunting in Northern Marinette County.  Notice I said trying...but I do know plenty of places a guy could try.  Let me know with more detail where you are going to be and I can try to be more specific with help.  PM me if you would like.

I have a platt book for Marinette County. I can loan it to you if you like. Where are you going to be? If you are near where I hunt I can offer some possibilities.

Thanks for all the info, I have been out of pocket a few days and not been able to post reply. I go the info on the cabin. It is near Beecher and Pembine in the north east part of the county. I am looking forward to seeing some new country.
