Title: Hats
Post by: Cane Knife on August 09, 2011, 06:44:00 PM
I saw a thread awhile back on hats people wear but my search couldn't find it.  I'm looking for a cool/cold weater hat pref. wool.  KOM used to make a short brimmed boonie but I can't find it anywhere anymore.  Let's see what all of you wear.

Thank you!

I mainly want to know if anyone knows where I can find the KOM hat now.  I think they stopped making it.  I sent KOM an e-mail but didn't get a response.  Any ideas?

I like my Stormy Kromer hat but have been considering a hat from Classic Bowman. Unfortunately their website seems to be inop.

Here is a wool one that will keep your head warm and won't get in your way when shooting.

I wear a couple of different hats. One I really like is a C.C.Filson, the Lot# 307, it's a cap style hat with a short bill, lined with wool, & storm flaps that buckle around front & can be used as flaps.
The other is a cap similar to the Stormy Kromer, but with inside ear flaps & I use them a lot here.
I also use a short brim  felt hat by Stetson from Cabela's, it's similar to the one Fred Bear used to wear all the time. When the weather gets nasty though, I switch to either of the above hats.

They're still available as far as I know... anyway, AlexOutdoors is a big KOM dealer in NJ and has them in stock in both the heavyweight wool and a lightweight wool.

Hard to get an all purpose all season hat... I have a storage box full of all kinds.

Most of the time though I wear a wool knit pullover type (we call them "tuques" here but I've heard them called "toboggans" in some places in the U.S.).

If it's hot I wear a headband, if it's going to be sunny I bring a cap along, if it rains a little it's not a problem... if it rains a lot my hooded rainsuit comes out.

Thanks for all the tips!  Gene - I'll call Alex Outdoors tomorrow.  Thanks again.

Mudd - I'm not worthy to wear your hat  :)  And they're getting a lot fancier.

Watch the news on Afghanistan.  The only thing that came out of the place is that wool flat hat. The sides roll down over ears and neck. The flat top can be tilted to keep sun from eyes

Mine is new, no terrorist were united with Allah in this posting

I beg to differ, if you are a traditional archer then you are worthy.

If you(or anyone) will send me a self addressed stamped envelope I'll gladly send the pattern.

They are extremely easy to cut out and put together.

God bless,Mudd
