Title: Backyard Range
Post by: 2216 on August 05, 2011, 03:45:00 PM
I am about to move in about a week and the good news is I'll be abel to shoot in my back yard. I shoot a lot and looking forward to setting up a nice range. Lets see some "home ranges".   :goldtooth:

Congrats. I love just walking out the door and being able to shooting. Its also easy to get that one shot per morning on your way out the door.

I can't imagine not being able to shoot at home. I think if I couldn't shoot out back I'd be shootin IN the house.

Here is the new practice stand
OK...I really built it for the kids as a tree fort, but dang it's fun to shoot out of!

I can see a few new 3D targets in my future  :archer2:

I have a 300 yard rifle / pistol range right out my backdoor.  But I only have a couple of block type bow targets.  I need to get some 3D targets out back one of these days...

Thanks guys it is nice to see your different set-ups. My youngest would not like to see her stuffed animals abused, but that is a great idea. I will post pics both before and after. I will probably have one or two 3D targets and a hay bale stand with rachet straps at 50 yards. Thanks again guys you rock.

Plumber, I am moving to the south end of Columbia. The drive from Eldersburg to Silver Spring is driving my wife nuts. When she is stressed I get stressed. Moving to a smaller house but a much larger yard. I noticed two large doe and what seems like an eight point right in my back yard. My neighbors are feeding the deer. I wonder what reaction they will have when I start launching arrows at my 3D targets, the will probably call the police. Welcome to Columbia!

to the right of the last tree is a 15 ft ladder stand and i put out the 3d deer heard in the opening behind the tree line as hunting season gets closer

Like South MS Bowhunter,  Here is the link to mine - a current thread, w/pics and videos.

michbowhunter, great looking tower/treehouse - when you gonna put one in my yard - LOL (One suggestion - when posting pics, hit Enter twice between pictures so they don't run together.)

PAC told me about theirs (on a visit here) and it was a kick to see it in a video. (I left a post through Facebook, PAC)

It takes time (in my case, years) to get targets built up. Only new ones I ever bought were bag targets on sale at WalMart (after hunting seasons), and the big round foam one at a shoot. All the rest were second/third hand and cheap, or I couldn't have afforded them - LOL.

Know this, 2216 - ANY home range is better than no home range. I started out (20 years back in Maine) w/one cardboard box stuffed with newspapers and magazines, and as okla bearglaw said, you can stump shoot at first (and also, after, you start gathering/making targets). Best of luck, and we will be looking for your thread and pics when you get going in your new place.

My home range consists of two bag targets, a 3-D turkey, and a foam blob for broadheads. I also have a feedsack bag course on a path in the woods.

It's not really a "range" per se, but I recently finished up this backstop for my bag target and couldn't be happier with the outcome.

   Backyard Target (http://tradgang.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=106874;p=1)

If I had the room, I would definately have a set up like some of these guys!  Makes me jealous.
