ok i have 2 bows that i am trying to fit some arrows too. one is a self bow that is 56#@28". and the other is a martin hatfield. 65#@28". where would you start on fitting arrows for these bows. wood or carbon. i used to love the big heavy arrows but i am starting to get away from that mind set to a certain point. let me know what yall think.
Thanks
Dustin
Dustin, I always start with how the shelf is cut. The self bow will probably be cut shy of center. Not sure how close to center the Martin is. But this does effect how flexible the shaft has to be in order to flex around the riser.
If you do a search on this site for Stu's calculator you will find a good computer tool to helping you start to find the correct arrow setup. It gets you close and then you can fine tune it.
look at my signature link to DSC page.
might want to download the bowcenter cuts pdf also.
hatfield is cut -1/8
self bows has no shelf. sorry about that
im not positive but im pretty sure that with no slef of the hand youll need a weaker spine (10lb maybe?) to allow the arrow to flex around the riser.
Dustin, In order to answer your question we have to know your draw length. 56 and 65 mean nothing if your drawing 30 inches or 26 inches. The first suggestion I have would be wood arrow for the selfbow and carbon for the Martin.

thanks bowmania, i draw between 28 and 30. i know that i want to use wood for the self bow. bt would go either way with the martin. i am crap at tuning a new bow so its a really drawn out process for me.
