Arrived in Northwest Territories. 2hour truck drive and one hour river boat got us to camp. Flew to the mountain in a chopper with my guide in the late afternoon.

We set up our little base camp and went to sleep in the daylight. Only three hours of darkness this time of year and had to wait 12 hours before hunting after a fly in.

Sounds good so far!
This is gonna be good!!!!!
Those R-44s are nice choppers. That is definitely the way to travel into camp. Beautiful area there in the NWT. I am eager to see more.

This is gonna be really good!!!!

Spent the next few days hiking and glassing for rams.
This is the back section of a mountain we crossed several times to try and close the distance on rams. I was experiencing a huge pucker factor on every trip of the side hill.

We saw legal rams every day but one.

On day 6 finally got close enough to take a shot.

Another shot for Rod!

Denny,
Great going! I have only had the opportunity to hunt Dall sheep one time and it was one of the toughest hunts I have ever experienced. Never came close to bow range.

Very nice pics!!

J-F
VERY well done! Congratulations!
"Pucker factor" is right! Got to be part sheep to hunt them. Great adventure. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Sound like you hunted Nahanni Butte. I was there in Sept. All that green turned almost orange. Incredible beauty. Shot my ram on the first day. Had to wait 5 days in camp to be picked up because of fog on the mountain.
Believe it or not one of the most incredible things was crossing the Liard River in a ferry. The current is so strong that boat has to point upstream to get to the other side. You can't figure how the captian is going to point the boat perpendicular to shore so the cars can drive off. When I came back I videoed it from a high point.
Sheep meat may be the best. I'd like to have it next to moose before I decide.
Bowmania
Thanks for sharing your hunt and pics with us.Congrats on a beautiful animal.

A dream hunt for sure! My two months I have spent in Alaska gives me even more respect for dall sheep; they live in some really tough country. Taking one with stick and string is quite the accomplisment, and Denny's is one beautiful ram!

I don't suffer envy or jealousy but I almost gave in to it in this instance. I always wanted to hunt Dall sheep and I always wanted to hunt dangerous game in Africa. I know that I'll never get the chance but I sure am glad that you did. Beautiful place those NWT.
when I turn 50 - in 8 years and when my son graduates and moves away - my wife and I are moving to AK so I can hunt Dall Sheep and other animals before I get too old to ever do it.
great hunt - what bows, arrows, heads, poundage etc was used ??
Beautiful sheep and country! Congrates on a fine trophy with any weapon, let alone with traditional equipment. Thanks for sharing.

Terry
I have hunted many rams with a rifle but hunting sheep with a trad bow is the manlist thing you can do
Congrats big time
Congratulations on a hunt of a lifetime! Thanks for taking us along.
-Jay
Thanks guys! It was one of the hardest hunts I've been on. I need to give credit to my guide Brodie Cardinal also. He is a fine young man in his 20s that can cover that kind of country easily. He took good care of me and was a lot of fun to hang with.
Talondale, that is a prototype arrow hole cover Rod is working on. It worked great. We were caught in several downpours and my broadheads never got wet.
Bowmania, Yes we were hunting with Nahanni Butte and booked throuh Bowhunting Safari Consultants. Both did an excellent job of making sure our hunt was the best it could be.
Kapellmeister, Yes that Sitka camo pattern was hard to see. I laid my beanie on a rock one day and had a heck of a time finding it. I wore the mountain pants with built in knee pads a core top and a traverse zip-T every day and stayed incredibly comfortable.
Frassettor, it is a Sitka Bivy 45 pack.
Peter, Tanner is the MAN!!! Good to hear from you both.
:bigsmyl:
Brad, I used a 66" 70# PLX, Traditional Only shafts with Woodsman Elites.
Congrats!
Awesome work Denny. I wanna go do that same hunt. Thanks again= Andreww
What an impressive hunt Denny! Congratulations on a fine animal. And on coming back to tell about it! Looks like that country could be dangerous!

Spectacular country to hunt in and a magnificent animal to hunt. Congrats on the fine ram.

:clapper: :clapper: :clapper:
Outstanding ram! Thanks for sharing. The pics were great!
Made that look easy! What a rush that hunt must be!
speechless! Congratulations!!!
man I hunted them in Alaska and never go close enough with a rifle much less a bow. I seen lots of them but weather would keep me from them most of the time. It is some of my most fondest hunting memories. Congrats awesome.
Awsome. That's all I can think to say.
Congratulations.
You guys who have taken a sheep with a trad bow definitely have my deep respect. It is something I would love to do, and still may try. I do worry that I might not come back with anything except broken bones and torn flesh -- MINE! Worse yet, those bones and flesh might come home in a body bag. I have hunted in that terrain, and it is definitely scary. :scared:
Allan
The Dall Sheep is truly a stunning animal. Looks like a ghost walking around in the mist. Congratulations on a real beauty. I'd love to do that someday.

What a great opportunity and hunt. Thanks for sharing it with us!
There is nothing more challenging than sheep or goats. I can watch them all day. I sure hope you brought a video camera for this one. I would love to see a video of the hunt.
Congratulations. I am going to Colorado on a elk hunt next week, but my main goal is to just see a bighorn or mountain again.
