i had the pleasure of meeting Ron Leclair this weekend. he is one of the people i had allways wanted to meet and a more humble, salt of the earth guy wiould be hard to find. a true gentleman of the sport that takes his time to meet and great all, a pleasure to be around. i was able to talk him out of a pretty special knife to boot! really hope somewhere along the lines our paths will cross agian. the Buffalo knife will be treasured as well as the pipes, thank you my friend!

Killy, we couldn't drive for five minutes after stuffing our guts before Kenny would mention he's getting hungry. :readit: :biglaugh:
I have to agree, although I only met Ron Briefly, he was a gentleman through and through.
It was Good meeting you Ron, but I have to say the highlight for me was seeing Ken finally meet you. :campfire:

That was a was my first time talking to Ron Laclair too!
What a great gentleman, he made a special bowie for me and I had the pleasure of picking it at Denton.
The stories he shared were amazing

I also got the chance to meet and put a handshake on Ron and Ken. It was a pleasure to meet y'all and chat a while!
JL
Thank you all.. :notworthy: I had a bang up time at Denton and met a bunch of great folks. It's been 9 years since the last time I was there but you can bet It won't be that long again.
If I would have known you were going I would have stayed longer to meet you Ron. :banghead: :banghead:
I got a brief moment to talk with with Ron at the end of the trade blanket. Kicked myself in the butt all the way way home for not having my camera. He also had some LeClair Skinners with him that were real nice !
That must have been one heck of a meeting! Two great men, one I've had the privledge of sharing a camp with and one I hopefully some day will. Gotta love traditional archery!
Thanks for sharing Ken, and that is one NICE knife!
Nathan
Good news all around!
Did you find out why Ron sells big knives and small bows? :D
I also had the pleasure of meeting some fine folks this weekend. Among them were Ken and his crew from upstate New York, Charlie, Manny, another Ken, Bowspirit, and Drewsbow.
Also, Ron came by the booth when my son Adam was there. It was a pleasure to see Adam's little paw disappear inside the Gentle Giant's big paw. Thanks Ron, for another good memory.
There were many more folks I met for the first time, as well as folks I am pleased to see every year.
I too had the pleasure of meeting Mr. LaClair this weekend at Denton Hill. Made a point to say hello during the trade blanket and a true gentleman for sure.
Thank you Sir!
Yup meeting Ron is on my bucket list. The only way to top meeting him is getting a family photo with Bigfoot.
ummm Big foot was at Denton too but for some reason people kept calling him Big Jim! yeaf ron is a top notch feller for sure!
Big Jim camps next to me at the Compton Rendezvous. He likes my coffee,..dark roast and strong.. :coffee: .. :jumper: ... :D
I was suprised to see Ron at Denton Hill as well. I really wanted to stop and chat with him, but he was visiting with other people. Really didn't want to interrupt. Found out later that Ron had one of the Shrew Hill's with him. :banghead: :banghead:
Bill
Ron's a heck of a guy. The real deal  anyone who likes knives that big and bows that sweet has got to have it together. Hope to meet him someday myself. :campfire:

What would I have to do to become one of the 5th Direction gang? :readit:

:bigsmyl:
I had the pleasure as well , met Ron , big Jim and it was great to finally meet Kenny Yoder . This year at Denton was one pleasure after another , what a great time.
I was gifted a shrew hawk by some french guy
Ron did say that after meeting Ken, his ears started to bleed from all the talk..... :biglaugh:
Great asset to traditional archey for sure. It is funny how things can be taken for granted living here in Michigan.
Growing up obsessed with archery I have had the pleasure of meeting and spending time with some of the greats in our small nitche world. I met and spoke with Fred Bear many times, shot in a winter league with Ron, Rick, Jerry. Been in Eckelstons(sp) shop buying arrows. Shared bear camp with Norm and Davey Blaker... and the list goes on.
As a teanager I never missed the traditional arrial shot demonstration these gentleman would put on at the MBH rendezvous and was in such awe at those shooting stick bows.
Today, after many years of doing this, I am just grateful to have had the opportunities I have and if there is one regret I never had Fred sign my bow. He was always so available that it just seemed like no big deal. How wrong was I???
Thank you for representing us well Ron - both in traditional archery and the great state of Michigan.
If I can make any request at all of you please catalog and organize your photo library so that it can remain available forever somehow on the web or otherwise. You have one of the greatest photo histories of our sport and seeing some of those old shots of you and the "original" Trad Gang is awesome. Back when you were shooting those heavy longbows and there were olny a handful of stickbowman out there.
Bob Urban
i have a request HOW ABOUT A BOOK!!!!!!!! i think many have threw this idea at ron before but don't ya thinks its time big fella???

classic Ron, 100 yards ye say??????
I got to meet Ron my self this past week at Denton He was just getting there on Friday Moring and was with John Lee whom I had not seen in about 20 years . It was a wonderful treat to meet Ron and a Blessing to See John again after all these years . We had a great little chat and some memories One of the best times I had this year at ETAR Thanx Ron
I am proud to count Ron among my friends. He is a fountain of knowledge and experience and a treasure to the traditional archery community (and to his friends). You are indeed fortunate to have been able to spend time with him.
Allan
I got to shake hands with Mr. LeClair , a true Gentleman of the sport . I also bought a great little neck knife from him . Didn't cross paths with you Ken , my loss . No hard feelings about the NWTF knife I hope . And young Adam is lucky to have a great Father , Ken , who really enjoys spending time with his son , as it should be . Seems I missed out meeting a lot of Trad-gangers , sorry , Fred
Fred it was great meeting you!
You missed Ken by roughly 30 yards, he was on the other side of the tent when we met at camp.
DAM would have liked to meet ya Fred! no hard feelings man i got some many knives it should be illegal anyways! allways looking for more though!
Got to meet Ron too. Very nice gentleman. I got his signature on a longbow I made and hopefully it will bring me some good mo-jo come fall. He also took the time to give me some pointers on bow design and show me his Shrew Hill and longbow made by John Lee.
Meeting and talking with Ron was the highlight of trip to Denton this year.
Great to have met you Charlie , and Ken there's always next year . I have more bows than I have brains and I still almost ordered a new one . Lucky for me I ran out of time by visiting with people at the close of the show , I am learning to avoid temptation , don't like it much though .
Fred
Fred and Kenny, your hearts run in the same stride.
I am so tickled when I see folks whom I have met meeting other folks who have gifted me with their time.
Such a karass! :bigsmyl:
Man, this thread makes me want to close up shop in the Summer and hit all the rondys. Then again, I am only open in the Summer so I would have no $ for the rondys:(
... as well as the pipes? Does Ron do some terbacky smokin' pipes as well?
he HAD a couple nice ones, now i have them! :goldtooth:
Ken wanted to know if I had any old pipes he could have. I had a couple that I've enjoyed for a few years and brought them with me to Denton to give to him. They are made by Savinelli, an old pipe maker that makes an excellent pipe. I hope you enjoy them as much as I have and remember....DON'T inhale.. :nono: http://savinelliusa.com/
