Bow: Martin Hunter, 50# @ 28 inches
Arrow: xx75 gamegetter, total of 555 grains with 125 grain woodsman broadhead. 5 inch feathers.
Ideal range for me is 15 - 20 yards out of a treestand.
Tradtech titan 55# @ 28"
Easton 2016s with bear razorheads
I'm pretty deadly out to 20 yards. Chris
My bows below my name is what I will be using ,and a CX 350 tipped with a 190 grizzly ElGrande. Arrow weight 750 gr.
Currently as listed below. Once I get my Maddog Midsized, we will see.
Bear Montana 50# @ 28
27.5" draw
29" POC 55-60
5 1/2" lw feathers
135 gr magnus 1
Wing Slimline Pro 45# @28
27.5" Draw
29" Poc 45-50
4" rw
135 gr magnus 1
Cari-Bow Slynx 49@28 tapered POC 5 1/2 real barred feathers shield and goose feathers on rainy days with 160 grain Woodsman Elites
68 inch Deathwish 54 pounds, 590 grain wood arrow total weight, ace (125) or stos (145) head
64 inch long walker 53 pounds ( almost a pure D bow ) same arrow as above.
Bob.
Bow: Thunderhorn Coup Stick 56# @ 28"
Arrow: Gold Tip Traditional cut to 29" w/ 4 inch right helical feathers.
Point: 170 gr. Zwickey Delta 2 Blade backed up with a 100 gr. brass insert.
Total Weight: 557 Gr.
My ideal shot range is 15 yards, and I am not 100% comfortable taking a shot at a deer past that. I would probably take a 20 yard shot if I was on the ground. Will NOT take a shot farther than that.
Elburg Jaguar Special 54@29.5, GT 5575 full length with 50 grain insert and 145 grain Bear Razorheads
Working on my shoulder...the goal is a 1962 45# Bear Grizzly with snake skins, wood arrows and a Bear Greenie up front at about 550gr all totaled out.
I have a few back up plans at 40-43#. With those I would likely settle on GT 3555's with what ever weight works best with that particular bow. Either a Bear Greenie or a Simmons Land Shark.
Haven't figured it out totally, but it looks something like this;
-Chapperal Kaibab longbow. 62 pound draw weight.
-Hickory and Laminated Birch arrow shafts. Fletched with 4, 5-inch shield feathers. Don't know the total weight as I haven't gotten the shafts yet, but history says they shouldn't be less than 800-grains. Hoping for 850+.
-160-grain Snuffers and Woodsman Elites.
60" Quinn recurve drawing 58@31.
XX78 2117 with a Zwickey Delta 170gr, total 620gr.
15 yards is ideal range for me, 20 feels like a good max.
Think I've decided on the set-up below, & if the shot feels good I'll take it.
#1: Bear Kodiak Hunter, 45# @ 28" with 31" Hunter Gold Tip Traditionals with 5" of weight tube in the front and Bear Razorheads totaling 500 grains. Under 25 yards from a stand or under 20 yards from the ground (for some reason, I shoot better from the stand than from the ground. Unsure why, although I do practice up there a lot).
#2: Owl sinew backed white oak hunting bow, 52# @ 28" with 28" Sitka Spruce shafts and 200 grain Ace broadheads totaling...oh, I dunno...enough. Ideal range under 15 yards stand or 10 yards on the ground. Neither range is a problem here. Often can't see further than that anyway.
#s 3, 4, and 5...Assorted selfbows and backed bows of dubious to neferous quality. Ideal range, undetermined. Check back again closer to the season. :D
A 56" Bighorn, 48#s slinging a 556 grain CE Heritage with greenie Razorheads with 100 grain steel inserts. I'm good to 30 yards or so, depending on how comfortable my stance is. I like them about 18yards with me 18' up in the tree
66" Horne's combo hunter long bow 51# @28" drawn to 29", GT 35/55 traditional full length 100gr. brass insert 145 gr Zwickey head 3-5 feathers 530gr total
20yds or less.
You can see most of what I'll be using in my signature. As for the rest:
A 1" wide, 3 blade Muzzy 75 grain broadhead. The fletching consists of 3, 5" right wing Gateway parabolic feathers with eleven degrees of right helical twist.
I'll be looking for a 12-15 yard broadside lung shot shooting from a ground blind.
This year, it is a 45# Martin Saber
500 (2016) 30" Gamegetters = total 483 gr.
(with head) 29" draw
125 snuffer - screw in
or 125 Ace with glue in alum. adaptor
20 yards and under
Did harvest a nice buck many years ago, standing in the field at a little over 30 yards, walked (wobbled) about 10 feet and dropped dead.
As of now it will be as follows:
Green Mountain Longbow #53 @26.5
CE Predator II 45-60 full length with 200gr Tusker Aztecs
3 5" feathers
15-20 yards max
60" Bruin Woodsmaster 45# @ 28" that I draw to 32". 33" Carbon Express Maxima 250's with 125 gr. Woodsman originals mounted on 125 gr. steel broadhead adapters. Makes for a silent bow and arrows that slide right through whitetails.
Carbonwood vapor with 2 blade 150 grain stinger and 75 grain brass insert. Total arrow weight just shy of 600 grains. I pull my recurve to about 51#. The bow is 62 inches long FYI.
I'll be using the same setup that I've used for the past few seasons.
-64" 50#@28" Tomahawk longbow
-585 grain cedar arrow cut to 29"
-160 grain Woodsman broadhead
-5 1/2" right wing shield cut feathers
I've got another setup that I might give a shot this season too.
-64" 45#@29" DonDow longbow
-515 grain cedar arrow cut to 29"
-125 grain Woodsman broadhead
-5 1/2" right wing shield cut feathers
I think both of these setups will work for whitetails or anything else I'll come across in Virginia. I hunt both from a tree and from the ground. I'd like all of my shots to be under 20-25 yards.
58 inch St. Joe River Bow hybrid flatbow, 53@28. 55/60 cedar arrows with 190 grain Ribteks up front.
Arrows come in around 605 grains.
Summit Open Shot climber stand mostly but hunt on the ground late season, or during hard rut in the swamps.
Mine is a cari-bow Wolverine 2 piece "take down" 57@28" 680 grain carbon express "heritage", tipped with a magnus stinger. I will use this set up for all the big game animals here in Manitoba.
I will be shooting a Northern Mist Classic 68" 51#@ 26.75. Arrows will be 28.5" Surewoods 560 grains topped with 160 gr. STOS. Fletched with either real barred 5" LWs shield type cut or yellow 5" shield cut. SafariTuff quiver
Mine is a Shrew Classic Hunter pulling to 30.5 with a MFX Classic 500 100 grain insert with 170 grain VPA Im good to 30 yards.
I will be shooting a Schafer Silvertip 62@28, I just got some surewood firs in the mail so I don't know the arrow weight and I haven't decided on a broadhead yet. I would like to get total arrow weight around 600-650. I'm just doing some searching now.
Will be using a 66 lb @ 27 hill longbow that 64 in with 2117 @ 28 with 160 gr snuffer head for arrow of 575 this will do the job on elk hope it will work on deer lol
Hunting a 64" Bamabows Elite Classic, 45@28. Full length Goldtip 3555, 3 5" shield cut, 50 grain brass adapter and 205 grain STOS (160 head, with 42 aluminum screw-in.) 517 total weight.
Summit viper climber, shots around 15 yards.
60# 62" Kimsha longbow or the 56" Kota I've become fond of. I'm liking a low wrist recurve.
Arrows GT 55/75 @ 28.5" w/ 100 brass and 200 Razorcaps or Suffers. Trying some tapered fir and chundo also. Snuffers or ACE on them.
Shot is wherever and whenever the switch flips.
Tim, same as last year.
45 lb Big river long bow 64" (I pull it to about 48 lbs.)
30" Doug Fir Arrows with a 130 Stos up front. Total average arrow weight is 679 grains.
60" Hummingbird LB, 54# @ 27", casting CX250 pushing Tusker SB broadheads. With steel BH insert and 50gr. brass shaft insert got the weight up around 575. I like an exit hole when shooting from a treestand and the ability to punch through shoulder blades if the shot is errent.
My setup will be the following:
Bill Stewart MCTD Recurve
62", 45#@28"
Alaska Bowhunter Supply GrizzlyStik Sitka, 29" BOP, 100 gr brass insert, 150 gr Elipse Werewolf Left Hand single edge broadhead up front. Brace Height will be 7-3/4" with a D10 string.
Or, it may be a Tall Tines, 62", 45-47#@28" with everything else the same.
Bill
My setup will be:
Woodland Hunter. 58in 48# @28
XX75 2016 with 170g Zwickey Delta upfront.
LOOK-OUT WhiteTails the GANGERs are getting ready!!
Black Widow MAX-60" 53@28 2018's tipped with 145 grain Snuffers. Max shot distance-25 yards.
I shoot the same setup for deer as I do for hogs, elk and bear:
Tall Tines Recurve, 60 pounds @ 30" draw
31" Axis N-Fused shaft, 5" "Fred Bear Fletch", tipped with a 300 grain VPA head (total arrow weight 610 grs.)
I am seeing a pattern here. I had an old friend that used to joke that DEADER is BETTER! No sence downgrading from an elk or moose setup. In my book more is always better and it seems ya'll are agreeing.
Holm-Made Osprey, 60", 44# @ 28".
29" 1916 Legacy arrows, 4" 3 fletch with 8" wraps
125gr, 2 blade Magnus Stingers with PDP weights added up front. Total weight-505grs.
I will need to keep my shots wiyhin 20yds.
Best of luck, DaveP

150gr stinger 2blade
50gr brass insert. #2-northernmist superior 48@28---66in same arrow set up
Toelke Whip 2pc 60", 57# @ 27" or my
Herb Meland Pronghorn 62", 55# @ 27"
Both shooting MFX Carbons at 28.5"
with 210 gr Grizzly up front for total
weight of 620 gr and very sharp. 25yds
max for me. A lot of good set-ups listed.
Good luck all. Sept 1st for me.
Most of this season will be spent with my Predator recurve.
This will be season number 14 with the same bow.
My arrows will be the discontinued Vapor Carbonwood 5000`s, and they will carry either a Magnus-1 or Zwickey Delta.
Most of my time will be spent using climbers, BUT there is always some ground pounding involved.
My setup is as follows

cx 150 29in 110 zw black diamond long insert 38gr
3 5in feathers 1in 2216 footing arrow wt 535

64" Wapiti Spike Longbow 58#@29", Surewood 75-80 shaft with 5 1/2" shield cut feathers, 190gr Abowyer Javelina. Total weight approx. 650gr. Max range about 20 yards on the ground and in a tree.

Also have some barrel tapered ash made up for the lefty bow which come in at 500 grains. This could be an interesting season.........
48@30 64" Blacktail one piece recurve shooting a 65/70 31" cedar with 125 grain Magnus 2 blade for a 630g arrow. J.A.
