just got my 8gpi tubes from 3 rivers. i did three gt xp camo hunters made them 695 with 125 heads. should be a heavy hitter. i havent shot them yet but think the northwind gem longbow at 55# should zing them pretty good. think im going to put plastic wrap on the knocks just to tighten them up maybe they wont pop out
If the tube is tight, they don't pop out. I would lay them in the tube, line up the nock and cut them to the right length. I never shot at rocks and they stayed put.
You can also pinch the tube with some pliers every 4-5 inches or so and that will also help hold them in place a little. I have even put a couple drops of superglue on the tubes before.
i crimped them every 5 or so inches they are cut to the insert and knock i did mark then lay knock next to the tube and cut maybe just a razor blade under just though the plastic wrap would not hurt. i would like to say i dont shoot at rocks also but have hit a few so far and this being my first year with any bow let alone a longbow and recurve im sure there are many more rocks and plenty of those stumps that look soft till you hit one :banghead: :archer2:
well just got in from shooting the heavy gold tips with field points from 15 yards into a black hole target they fly nice and sticking about 4 inches out the back of the target should pass through a deer ifin i do my part
I too just purchased some of these tubes. I plan to check them out tomorrow at camp and if they fly well use them bear hunting in September.
Instead of crimping the tube with pliers, try putting a wrap or two of Scotch tape around the tube every 4-6 inches. Use enough tape to make the tube fit snuggly in the shaft. This will also reduce the noise the tube makes when it wiggles against the arrow shaft. Since the tube has a tighter fit, it is less likely to pop out the nock.

Hmm. Hadn't thought of that tape wrap idea before. I have always crimped them and had pretty good results. That is something I will have to try.
This year, I am just using a few inches of tube in the front of the shaft. Kind of a middle ground between weight and speed and higher FOC. Still plenty heavy though. Well over 10gpp.
