In 2005, I collected e-mail addresses for everyone who attended the Great Ohio Rabbit Hunt that year. I've sent an e-mail and already received three undeliverables. At any rate, the question is, Will there be a GORH 2007? Where will it be held? Let's get some input! I'll serve as the point of contact, but as for logistics and planning, well, I might not even get to deer hunt this year because of my job.
Let's talk!

you better be having a GORH John. Delaware State Park is always a fall back. too many good people and good times to not considering doing it again.
-
Hopefully Greg will be gracious enough to allow us to hold it on his property again.
Looking forward to it.
-
I got your e-mail. Let's do it! I think the season ends in Feb but just in case, try not to schedule it for the 1st weekend of March. Me, Dean Torges and a bunch of others will be in S. Texas hunting with Curtis (Littlefeather).
Let's get the details together and I'll put something in the next issue...

John,
I'm new here but would love to be a part of this and meet some other traditional shooters. Nothing like picking the brains of those with experience and this would be a great way to do that. I've got a busy work schedule, but I'd even be willing to help some with the planning if need be.
-
I would attend. I already emailed you about a couple conflicts on specific weekends though. I would even be in for "just" a get together/stump shoot. It may make it easier to find a suitable location too if bunny population isnt a concern.
Lets face it, it is not like we have ever damaged the wabbit population anyway.

I'd love to go. I always like seeing Doughboy hung up on an electric fence! :knothead: :wavey:
-
well, i'm in!!! especially since i'm here in ohio for college!!! just let me know where and when!!
-
I'm in
-
I'll all for it. I'll make time if nothing happens.
Besides last time was a blast.
-
What are you nuts? You guys allready make me wait every other year for this. Been three times and allways had fun. I would love to continue. Praying for snow allready. Not cold but snow up to your a$$.
-
Eric, Need a good e-mail for you. Shoot me one.
Dale, added you to the list and sent you a note.
Ryan, you're on the list.
Everybody else I've already talked to.
Got 18 names so far, counting myself. We'll do this thing one way or another!!!
-
I’ll have my wife make some of her apple pies :D .
-
Tony, YES! Drummer, up to your butt? Heck my that's up to my shoulders! :help: :help:
-
I'd be in and could share a drive with someone from Cincinnati if anyone would be interested. We have a traditional rabbit hunt in TN on 1/13/07 with the TN Trad Archery Society, would prefer it not be on that weekend if possible.

I'm new to the forum this year and am unfamiliar with this event. Could you pass along a little more info about the event (a least a time frame)?
Ohio is only a small hop fom MI.
Thanks
-
MI it is generally a weekend affair. Last three time, I think, it has been help at a really nice guy's palce with access to a lot of ground and lots of wabbits. Guys start to filter in on Friday night. Primitive camping. Bring your own stuff. Saturday is a full day of chasing ole cotton tail. In years pass we have had a pot luck throw it togerher kind of a supper. Some stay over for Sunday with more fellowship. Usually snow knee deep to a tall Indian and COLD. Great fun! Oh giys from MI are not allow across the border. Just kidding. Just kidding. Come on down.
-
Ted, I'm sorry I wasnt thinking of you. Just in case I get my wish. I have snow shoe's you can barrow. I'll have to just rough it now that I've opened my big mouth.
-
John, I'm in again this time, can't wait.
-
Put me down John. I have been banged up all summer. Should be able to shoot by then.
-
I will definily try to get down there. Sounds like a lot of fun.
-
Count me in. Sounds like great fun.
-
David, Mike, Mark, Jim and Jim... Got you on!
I'm thinking MAYBE either the weekend of January 27 & 28 or February 3 & 4. There seems to be a lot going on later in February, not the least of which is the OSTA banquet on 2/12.
Anybody see anything wrong with either of those dates? Maybe we can rule one out.
-
John, Feb is good for me. I think deer season is still in since we got expansion on those feb dates. Might need to pack some broad heads
-
I'm with FSN above about doing the hunt during the big game season. It's always more interesting when the target array is broadened.
Please drop me an email if I can help out.
David
-
If we are using Greg’s place I'm not sure if the property owners would want us to hunt deer.
-
Map? Directions? Date?
I'd love to make it.
-
Maybe we should do it at the park this year? Give Greg a brake if you will. What do you guys think?
-
It doesn’t matter to me, I’ll be there no matter where it’s held. :bigsmyl:
-
You can count me in on this as well, if theres room for me.
[email protected]
-
I am open that time of year.just directions and a date. If I can help in any other way email me.
-
I'm out if it's before Frb 4th, will still be hunting deer. That's the reason it was held during mid to late Febuary, not to conflict with OSTA and OBA banquettes, and deer season.
-
I guess another reason to possibly avoid the last weekend in January would be the Kalamazoo Expo....
-
The first GORH was held on the same dates as the Kalamazoo show and we had over 40 people show up, so that shouldn’t be a problem. I remember a couple of the guys from out of state purchased deer tags and did some deer hunting.
-
I'm with Tony. Don't think mazoo would make a difference but, there is always a but you know. As good OBA and OSTA supporters I think we need to stay away from their dates.
-
If you decide on the K-zoo dates, count me out. Have to run a booth that weekend...
-Brian
www.bowyersjournal.com (http://www.bowyersjournal.com)
-
I would like to join in the fun too. Wish I had done it while I lived there in Ohio! But worth the drive, sounds like.
-
How did I miss this post?
Should be able to make it again in 2007. Could cook up some caribou and bring it for the Saturday evening meal.
Goose
-
I'd love to try shootin some southern wabbits! Don't know if I could do the whole weekend but would like to make it for a day at least, just to meet a bunch of gangers.Any info. on when and where yet? Please contact me or post if so. Thanks!
Denny
-
Sounds Like fun to me. Put me on the list too.

-
Sounds like fun let see some dates
[email protected]

Sounds like fun!
-
ok.... guys... we've all been out chasing Mr. White Tail since september/october... and i know that if i dont have a deer in the freezer by february... i'll just put some rabbit in my tag soup!!!!! just my $.02!
by the way, the last weekend in jan or the first in feb is good for me, BUT lets set a date so i can say "oooh sorry i'm hunting rabbits with my online bowhunting friends(this is usually when my girlfriend starts laughing at me)that weekend!"
-
Well we are running out of time if there is to be another GORH. Ellen and I would be glad to host GORH again this year but we need to pick a date. The OBA banquet is the 9th-11th and the OSTA banquet is the 18th. With deer season open through the fourth that leaves the weekend of the 25th.
If we want to have another rabbit hunt here we just need to pick a date.
Let me know what you all think I am open to any date.
-
I'd love to go. I'll plan on it once the dates are set. The only thing that may prevent me from attending is that my wife is due around that time with twins! So I may end up a little busy. But if I can I'll try to get up there. I had a blast last time.
-
so.... LETS JUST DO IT THE 25th................!
just my $.02
-
Just to be clear - Sunday, Feb 25th?
-
If it’s the 25th of February, I will not be able to attend. I will be in Florida that week, I would hate to miss a GORH.
-
So WHERE IS IT!!!!!!
-
O2,
Nothing definate has been set as of this time (at least to my knowledge). It is still being tossed around. If there is indeed a GORH 2007, and Greg and Ellen host again, it would be in Centerburg Ohio.
I am out as well if it is the weekend of Feb 25. I have prior plans.
BP
-
Why don't we go with February 3-4? We miss all the banquets and Kazoo. That may be the last weekend of deer season, but if you don't have one by then, things are not looking good for you this year, so you may as well hunt rabbits.
It's very generous of Greg and Ellen to off his property again!
Goose
-
Feb 3/4 would be good for me, any weekend will be fine but was going to try to go to Kzoo if possible.
That is mighty generous to have all the bowhunting yahoos return to your property!
-
I just exchanged emails with Greg. He cant access this site from work.
What would everyone think of holding GORH 07 on Friday the 16th and Sat the 17th? People usually head back to their homes on Sunday morning anyway. If this were to happen, it would leave the 18th for those of us that are members, to attend the OSTA banquet.
Folks could arrive on Friday and get their camps set (maybe hunt some depending on time frame) and do the main hunt on Saturday. Most likely have a pot luck type dinner Sat evening as in the past, Then go our seperate ways Sunday morning.
This was just a thought Greg and I had so DONT take this as being a final decree or anything yet. We just wanted to put out a feeler on this.
Hopefully Greg can weigh in on this from home, later.
BP
-
That would work for me.
-
OK, I can live with that.
Goose
-
Is Centerburg a bit north of Columbus?
The 17th sounds pretty good, my wife has some friends I could drop her off with in Delaware OH if Centerburg is where I think it is.
-
Yep, Centerburg is a bit north of Columbus. It is the geographical center of the state, if I am not mistaken.
BP
-
are we talking february 16th & 17th if so thats great......
-
Once this is all set, I'd like directions as Columbus is about a 90 minute drive for me.
-
16th & 17th of Feb, right?
Thats good for me.
-
Yes, it would be in Feb. Sorry I didnt specify earlier.
Our bunny season ends the end of Feb.
BP
-
february 16th & 17th good with me too
-
Works for me, as far as I know. Tony, save me a space!!
-
When this is set in stone let me know. This sounds like a lot of fun
-
Kent,
Will do, but I may only be there on Saturday. If I come on Friday it may be later in the day.
-
With this blood clot in my right leg my out side activities are all up in the air. Had to stop hunting just after the first of Nov. If I'm up on it for any length of time it swells up tighter that a three dollar drum. I hope by Feb. it will have relented some so I can at least be there. Will have to wait and see.
-
16th and 17th would work for me! I'd need some directions to get there.
Denny
-
Feb 16 & 17 sounds good to me. What kind of arrow point combo is everyone shooting, this is first bunny hunt for me.
-
Brian, Thanks for posting for me and coming up with your suggestion. It sounds like the 16th and 17th will work. I would like to give it a few more days before we set the date in stone.
Sounds like the concensus is the 16th and 17th.
Greg
-
Ted-
Maybe we could pad up a gamecart for you and haul ya around? Hitch you up to a team of beagles and hunt those rabbits Ben Hur style a la chariot.... :scared:
Hope you get out to the hunt Ted, would be nice to meet ya along with everyone else.
David
-
OK I guess it is about time to either set a date or call an end to GORH 2007.
I have not set any novelties I am thinking a day of chasing rabbits sitting around the camp fire.
The date would be the 16th, 17th of February. Campers welcome friday and saturday night.
Let's have a roll call and see who is interested in a day of chasing rabbits and shooting bows.
Thanks Greg
-
I would love to attend. I'll put my request in @ work tomorrow.
:campfire: :archer: :coffee:
-
I'll be threr fer sure Greg.
I am available for anything needed to get it going. I'll pm you my phone number. Been wantin to get with you now that we are neighbors anyway.
-
I forgot to ask what time & where? I'll be coming from Winfield, WV. Rte 35. Thanks.
-
I am sure you prolly know this, Greg. But I can be talked into attending. Still trying to track down some peach preserves.
BP
-
Greg,
I will be there on the 17th.
-
See you there.
What can we do to help?
Goose
-
Dates work for me. What can I bring and/or do to help out?

I was going to bring my coffee pot again BUt there was some sissy there that drank decaf( HI JOHN GESNER! )...My coffee pot felt violated and never worked again. :( :goldtooth:
-
I'll be there, I call dibs on the dumb slow rabbits!
-
Love to come. Hope for a bit of snow.
-
I thought I had Dough Boy, Jamie, and Hoot all lined up to pull my cart seeing as how they can't hit rabbits any way but, there is always a but you know. They back out and let this ole poop high and dry! Fox I may just have to take you up on your offer. Off course if Dough Boy finds that Peach stuff I'll just hold the camp fire down. Yew Haw!
-
Looks like a go for me, too. Can't wait to see old friends, and meet new ones.
Lefty, I'll see if I can't find a link to the maps to get you there.
-
Eric – I showed last year, but on Sunday after everyone already left…8^)
-
well... i'll be there!!! with bells on... and there had better be coffee somewhere!!! I'm looking forward to meeting all you guys!!! and as a refresh'er what are the options for lodging?
-
Well I'm thinking dinner on saturday night I'll supply the main course, So if people bring side dishes we should be able to put together a good meal. Right now I'm leaning towards burgers and brawts since I have plenty of both in the freezer. Venison of course
Brian if you could bring your nephew that would be great.
Greg
-
ironrhino, its tents if you stay at Greg's place. If you do a search for GORH I think there is a list of lodging in the area.
rattus, my wife will make a couple apple pies.
-
If I can bring him, I will. All depends on the schedules of his parents.
Maybe you should post an address so people can mapquest you for directions. It sounds as if some new guys will be there and dont know where it is. I dont have it (wouldnt post your address if I did), I just know how to get there lol.
BP
-
My wife said she would make some of her killer baked beans. She uses five different kinds of beans, and are they ever good!
Goose
-
Please add me to the list....
R
-
Guys,
I'm going to try to be there. But I have Twins due on the 16th. They will likely be here before that though. If they come early enough I'll have driven my wife carazy enough she might want me to go. LOL. I hope to get to come even if its just for saturdays hunt. But with new babies I'll have to play it by ear.
-
dates work for me.Did I miss the directions?
-
my address is 5401 gilbert road centerburg OH. 43011. I think there is atill a map posted on the GORH site but I will check and see.
Greg

The directions and a list of lodging is still there. Also my shop has a wood burner and room for a few people. There is always some space in the cabin also.

You guys might wanna bring your shorts, tanning lotion, and sandles for this GORH. El nino's keepin it warm here. No snow to speak of as of yet.
-
"You guys might wanna bring your shorts, tanning lotion, and sandles for this GORH."
Hmmm, I just came in from walking the dog. It's 33 degrees with about a 40 mph wind. Froze my butt off! And it snowed like heck this morning. You southern Ohio people have all the luck!
Goose
-
Might want to think about waders instead of shorts. It is still raining here!
Been seeing plenty of bunnies on the driveway though.
-
One thing about Ohio, you can tan one day and you'll need your wool the next, then rain gear the next, then you can work on your tan the next, then ...you get the picture
-
Hey Greg, would you post your adress so folks can Map-Quest the way down? I know a few people that want to come, but cant follow me. I can get there, but dont know all the roads names.
Thanks buddy. Now dont you guys sneek out there an pop as those driveway bunnies on friday before I get there.
:knothead:
-
Drummer,
He posted his address about 8-9 posts ago.
Here it is again: 5401 gilbert road centerburg OH. 43011
-
Brian P. "Still trying to track down some peach preserves."
Hope you can.
I gonna try to make it down from Michigan. Had to miss the last one due to the birth of our little one after attending the the previous GORH's. Thanks in advance Greg. I'm going to practice this weekend at the Michigan traditional bowhunters rabbit hunt.
-
Will there be a raffle this year?
-
Jason,
If I remember you went home with a beagle and got caught in the ice storm on your way home.
-
Well guys, it is not looking good for peach preserves. Guess we will have to rough it on domestic libations.
If this weather holds, you might want to rethink the shorts and sunglasses. High in the 20 tomorrow, I hear.
Wabbits be toast
BP
-
Dag goneit DB! Can't count on you fer any thing! What good are you. I sure was looking forward to a touch of the Peach. Guess I'll have to go with that low test coffee!
-
I thought I might have had it delivered during the holidays, but things didnt work as planned. 8 hour drive to go get it and I just dont see an opening in my schedule to go stock up. Maybe I can have some for OSTA and bean shoots this year.
BP
-
Yup Tony that was me. A long slow drive on the ice.
-
Jason,
I hope you can make it this year.
-
Ooops, How did I miss that??
:banghead:

ttt
-
I'll be there Saturday.
-
Wa'll have any snow down that way? I know Tony has snow! I think the year I had the most fun we had snow. I was gonna go out and try to get a warm up in last night. But the wind picked up and the temp was brutal. I played sissy and stayed in.
-
Yeah I have snow; I awoke to about 6” of it this morning. I to hope we have snow.
-
Drummer dat ain't sissy, dat prudent. You can mind the fire with "prudent" COB! :^)
-
Tony,
Sent you a PM.
Can't wait fellas. Wabbits be toast!
-
Kent,
Got it and sent one back.
I should have room for one more in my tent.
I had my basement flood this summer and I thought my tent was protected in a action packer. When I got it out for a August 3-d shoot I found that my tent was setting in a couple inches of water. I tried to clean it the best I could, so I don’t know if there is any damage. I guess I will find out soon.
-
ahhhh,
guys, i just got on tradgang a few months ago and i would love to join the gorh, but im stuck in iraq till next fall. that being said, two things, someone needs to take a bunch of pictures and there has to be one next year. from what my dad has been telling me about the weather, the rabbits wont know what to do if it snows. good luck guys and have fun!
-
dougers,
GORH is every 2 years.
Keep your head down and thank you for your service.
-
every two years!!! maybe i need to use some emergency leave! haha
-
Tony,
Got your PM. Save me a space, if the tent survived. If not, hope Greg has the shed cleared out around the wood burner!!! As noted, I'll be rolling in around 0730-0800 on Saturday morning & staying thru till Sunday afternoon sometime. Can't wait to see old friends & meet new ones. Is the plan still a pot luck dinner for Saturday?
Kent
-
Kent,
I looked it over last night and it looks like it survived, it might be a little moldy.
I have to purchase some firewood but I should be all set.
-
Cleaned the wood shop this weekend and it is stocked with wood. Should be able to put at least 4 maybe more in there.
There is always some room in the cabin also
Greg
-
Do we have any dogs lined up?
-
TTT
2 weeks away folks!!
-
OK we are getting close
I was wondering if I could get a volunteer to bring paper plates and plastic silverware for saturday evening.
I'm still planning on burgers and brawtwurst for dinner saturday.
If I could also get someone to do buns that would be great also.
I will have all the condiments required.
Thanks Greg
-
TT
-
Greg,
I'll bring whatever is needed. Consider the buns, plates, and plastic stuff taken care of.
I'll make a crock of deer chile and corn bread for saturday afternoon too.
-
Wow, that's great of you Jim. My wife is making the baked beans.
Greg: Do you want us to bring our own drinks?
Goose
-
My wife is making 3 apple pies.
-
I'll have something with me too. Not sure what yet, but something.
-
Somebody ought to post a thread on the "events" board.
-
Heydeerman said
You guys might wanna bring your shorts, tanning lotion, and sandles for this GORH. El nino's keepin it warm here. No snow to speak of as of yet.
Jim,
That has changed hasen't it. LOL We have 4+ inches here.
-
Yea I was just looking at the forcast too. Mite be kinda cilly.
:scared:
-
Wouldn't be GORH with out snow, cold, and wind!
-
Thanks Jim Much appreciated:-)
Tony we have some beagles lined up. Unfortunatly Dave has prior obligations with his family. But a friend from work said he would bring his dogs if I loaned him a bow.
The weather looks like it might be perfect we will still have snow but temts up to 30! A heat wave, rabbits should be moving:-)
I may be cutting some wood on friday besides maybe doing a little spot and stalk on bunnies.
Goose just wanted thank you again for your work. Ellen and I will be at the OBA banquet so look us up.
I will be picking up a new bow from Donny Assienheimer at the banquet:-) curly maple should be a looker and a shooter.
Drummer the barn is ready and there be plenty of wood.
Thanks Greg
-
Greg,
How much snow do you have? Should I bring a snow shovel to clear a spot for my tent?
Tony
-
Greg: You are picking up a new bow from Don! Fantastic, you could not do better! The wife & I will be there with Don & Shirley on Saturday, they have been good friends of ours for 20+ years.
And thank you for hosting GORH! Hosting an event like this is enough to test a good marriage. But you have a real keeper with Ellen!
See you Saturday!
Steve
-
Thanks bud but I dont think I can spend the night this year. I've got too much to do on sunday. I'll have to be geten home. I'm sure the wood wont go to waste though. Still gonna try to stay for dinner.
-
Greg, I can be there to help you with the wood next friday. If I get home and get a couple hours sleep in the morning I'll head your way.
-
Thanks again Jim I will be all day friday. How's the shoulder doing?
I saw a question about drinks, it is BYOB adult beverages or not.
Tony there is a shovel in the barn, the snow is maybe 3-4" not to bad.
looks like the ground will be frozen which makes parking easier.
Saw a bunny down at the barn last night and tracks every where:-)
rabbits be toast
Greg
-
Thanks Greg, I will be there sometime on Friday Afternoon.
-
What time does the fun begin? I've got a 2.5 hr. drive in good weather and would like to be there for the beginning of the fun. Looking forward to meeting all you gangers!
Denny
-
Tony,
Gonna beg borrow & steal to make it on Friday evening, but still not sure. I'll be there one way or the other, though!
Got some Wild Turkey Rare Breed for X-mas this year. GORH sounds like a fine time to pull the cork on it.
Rabbits be toast!!
-
gregg i will be there fr. morning to help if needed . just give me a shout . hoot
-
Longstiks we should start chasing rabbitts by 8:30 9:00 saturday morning
Hoot bring a bow we have good tracking snow. Fire wood won't take to long I've been working on it.
-
Friday evening is looking better and better for me as it gets closer! I think she's ready to get me out of the house.
Greg,
How much snow are they forecasting for you, or are you in the sleet/freezing rain mix we're getting over here in WV?
-
Kent,
So far it is all snow and we are to get around a foot. Maybe a little more. I think souther Ohio is getting more freezing rain.
Sure hope the biggle dogs got stilts or snow shoes! That goes for you to, COB. Hate to lose the old fart in a drift.
BP
-
I don't know Doughboy. We got a lot of ice down here!!!! My truck, which has to set outside and is front of the garage door, is frozen shut tighter that my wallet. I've tried my wives hair dryer, I don't need one you know, and they will not budge. Sun is shinning and I'm hoping Mother Nature helps me out, litterly. Course it not nice to fool Mother Nature and I have blind sided her a couple of times. Hope she has a short memory!
-
I’m not looking forward to shoveling out a spot for my tent. I just spent all morning snow blowing the driveway and getting the snow off of the roof of our sun porch. We got about 12-15 inches with a lot of drifts that are around 3 feet or more.
-
Tony,
Greg's wood shed is sounding better & better, ain't it??? Friday evening is looking better & better, too.
-
Kent,
Yes it is but this is the only time I really use this tent. So come hell and high water I'm using it :banghead:
-
Well, my Amish neighbor just plowed my drive with his tractor, so if we don't get any more snow, I'll be there with bells on!
Now my wife wants to go to Red Lobster for Valentine's Day since the drive is plowed. The Amish neighbor helps me for free, but the dinner will probably cost me $50! Oh well, I can't complain.
Goose
-
LOL Tony there is now 8" of snow shovel is in the barn. I cut some short wood and split it but it is barried in snow now. Wood shed is open or a spot in the cabin your choice.
Hoot I have wood cut and split now just not stacked. I think Friday we should find some samplings for a stair rail.
Greg
-
Tony,
Makes no difference to me...Have cot, will travel! Again, looking better & better to get out of here Friday about 1400 or so. Barring any problems, gets me there by 1730-1800. Sorry about the military time for those who don't understand, but with my job, that's pretty much how my mind thinks.
RABBITS BE TOAST!!!
-
Greg,
I'm bring the tent but who knows. I will have to wait and see when I get there.
-
YEE HAW!! Outta here tomorrow afternoon instead of Saturday AM.
RABBITS BE TOAST!
-
See ya then,I should have the tent up and a nice fire going inside. I will hopefully be there before 2:00.
-
Tony,
Outstanding! Anyone coming with you this year??
-
No both Eric and Matt are working, so I will be solo.
-
Sounds good. See everyone tomorrow evening!!
-
Good luck, guys. Be safe.
I was waiting to see what the weather would do, so I'm leaving this'n to y'all.
Its supposed to snow down here this weekend, too. Then get to almost 60 next week. Anybody wanna come down to 'Bama for a hunt later in the month? :-)
-
Buz,
Not at this time, but...Whatcha got good ta chase? Been a long time my friend!
-
Good luck to you guys!!Have a safe and enjoyable hunt
-
Chasing wabbits with beagles, Kent, till the end of the month. Then its two weeks of chores (and fishin') till turkey time.
We've got some bow-only areas locally, and nobody down here bowhunts rabbits.
Have a good weekend, partner.
-
swampbuck (Tom), Thank you and you guys do the same.I will be thinking of you guys. Tell Bob, Brent and Pete (if he goes)I said hi. I'll have a few new bows for Hawkeye.
Buz-Al,

Was off Friday night and all set to go to bed early. Got called out to work and just got home at 8 AM. Would probably not be a good idea to drive a few hours west on no sleep. Dang, you all have a good time, sorry it didn't work out.
Goose, let me know how much I owe you for the shirts and I'll send a check with enough to cover shipping.
