Received this bamboo backed longbow from bowyer Leroy Buckley of Oglesby Illinois this week. Leroy has been a customer of mine for several years. I had asked him a few weeks ago to describe his longbow design to me, next thing I know I receive this American classic. The specs are 62", 45 @ 28", red elm core, osage compression, bamboo back, shedua and zebra riser. This bow shoots a variety of arrows like a dart, and NO handshock? Who has shot a selfbow with no shock? The reflex/deflex is pronounced, with a stiff last 12" at the tips. This design is quite unusual for an all wood bow, but very effective. Leroy probably is not as well know in the glass world, more so in the primitive world. He is however, an American gem. Great job Leroy, thank you. JMP

Looks good Mike, How you been man?
Whats all that stuff in the back ground?
CTT
Hey John, that's a beautiful bow! You must be casting your bread on the water for it to come back to you in such a way!
Just one question... can you still classify it as a "selfbow" when it's laminated?
The bow is a beauty and sounds like a shooter too but with all due respect, it's not a self bow.
I guess I am a little "green" in the primitive world, yes this is a laminated all wood bow. Sorry for my ignorance and poor photography. Chuck, background is just stuff. LF
Just stuff eh Mike? REAL NICE STUFF!
I was gonna gig ya for the self bow thing to but I let it slide this time, :p
I do like the looks of that bow, what kinda brace hight does it like?
CTT
That bow looks like a real shooter to me.....very nice!!
Chuck,
The bow is braced @ 7 1/4". Leroy twists his strings Hungarian style, it took me a while to get it correct.
HUNGARIAN????? what the...... :saywhat:
Very nice looking bow. I really like the strung profile. I think I might need one of those.
I have been a glass bow guy since day one, that being said, I have a funny story to go with this bow. The first time I strung the bow, and began to shoot, I heard this crackling noise, I thought "there she goes!" It turns out it was the fossil beads tied on the grip kissing the bamboo. I laughed and told Leroy this story, he mentioned that I don't have the faith it takes. LOL
Gene, as to where I cast my crumbs, It is not hard for me to forget where they went, my memory connectors are not fully engaged. I do however much more enjoy giving than receiving. Really feel awkard on the receiving end.
That sure is a pretty bow. Obviously pride in fine workmanship. Hope you enjoy it.
Great looking bow.
Now that's a purrrrty bow! Enjoy.

I love BBO's, that one looks sweet!
I back nearly all of my own self
"made" bows with bamboo now days. I haven't made a single stave selfbow for quite awhile now, I guess it's hard to go backwards once you've made the progression forward?
I've ordered 3 bows from Leroy...2 for me and 1 for my son-in-law. Every one is a good shooter and the price was right. Leroy is a great guy to talk with.
I can't say that I'm familiar with a "Hungarian twist" bow string.
Please enlighten me!
Thank you in advance!
God bless,Mudd
PS: Take heart, I've never know where to classify all wood laminated bows either...lol
I don't know that it matters when it is as sleek and beautiful as the one you are showing us.(Thank you!)
very pretty bow and you seem to bond well with it. :wavey:
Great looking bow, Shoot her well and enjoy.
Call her what ya want.......as long as she makes you happy, just enjoy. She is a beauty.
LF,

I guess when I thought of the topic header, and came up with Classic American Longbow, I was thinking of the country of origin of the bowyer.
