LOL,
Can somebody give the the Cliff's notes on the HH Bug thread. I just dont think I have the dedication to read 250 some odd pages of posts.

Read the quick load version linked on the first page...it makes it a lot faster and you can search for specific info
Caleb...yeah...those type threads you need to be here when they start...and keep up with the story and bi-lines daily.
Unfortunately, I haven't been able to keep up with it myself....too busy with too little time. :(
I've only read a few pages of that thread myself, but apparently there's a lot of people here that get a warm fuzzy feeling over their Hill bows
I really like Hill style bows but it has gone to far for me to keep up. If I found a good deal on one tomorrow I'd grab it, but that has gone to far for me
There's a Silver Tip thread like that one also...and I'm pretty sure its LONGER than the HH thread.
The HH Bug thread is full of great info. It's not just people with a "warm fuzzy feeling over their Hill bows." There's info on how to shoot them so you don't get the handshock so many complain about. How to shoot them accurately. Info on choosing the right bow length, weight, grip, etc. The list goes on and on. Rob D. did an awesome little slide show too showcasing Hills.
The searchable thread is awesome!
I haven't read it either and was wondering the same thing. They sure get a good return on the used ones. Been looking for one in a lighter weight and can't find one. The only one I did find was goiong for $400.00.
It has made finding a used one at a really good price harder.LOL.....stabow
bow now coming back home too me
IMHO, that thread is going to lead to a whole bunch of used ones within the next year. LOL. I love Hill's but there are a lot of individuals who it is not the right bow for, and I think a lot of them are picking them up to fit in.
That thread is basically like a bunch of guys sitting around a campfire, talking about Hill-style bows and shooting them, showing pictures of their bows and hunts, and generally just having a conversation. Like any conversation, the specific topics vary, but, in general, the theme has remained focused around the Hill-style bow.
The participants are of varied skill and knowledge, and many are excellent bowyers, which provides some useful insight. It is by no means a closed group, and anyone is welcomed to join in. I don't think you have to read the whole thread to contribute, as most of the current conversations are pretty recent, maybe only a page or two old. Just make sure to use the search function to make sure any new question hasn't already been answered.
I guess if you didnt grow up with a Hill well
In the end it has to be about how a bow shoots for you and not just the pretty wood. I agree that there will be lots of used ones. I know it may be against the grain, but if you want to enjoy shooting a Hill style bow, shoot it like Hill would shoot it. Not saying that reinventing a wheel of your shape will not work, but from 40 years of shooting Hill style bows and teaching others, 9 out of 10 are better off starting with shooting them Hill style first and then perhaps allowing the form to have ones own slight variations to it, which is natural and expected. I wonder what the going price will be for them used in the future if there is going to be a flood of them available.
It is like playing the stock market w bows! Lol. Hill bows get bought up pretty quick. I know I pick up the 40-50#'s regularly. They don't get old to me
One thing I'll say about the Hill's. Craig has done a great job keeping the price down. If you avoid all the bells and whistles you can get a very servicable bow, brand new, for $650 or less. Add all the bells and whistles and your looking at less than a grand shipped, and you'll have it in short order. Compared to most thats a bargain.
Hmmm, is this going to be another HH bug thread? Maybe...... :saywhat:
Speaking of the thread, not the subject matter, which is dear to my heart, I just find it unworkable. I followed for awhile, but it's too difficult to follow specific lines of interest. A post you're interested in quickly gets buried, and tracking just responses on that subject becomes too burdensome. I drop in from time to time, but I don't have time to track the solid info vs. the just comments. Great place to see Hill style eye candy, though.
I'm wasn't dissin' Hill bows with my last post.I've never shot one. Some folks mention handshock or the grip doesn't fit.But I never heard they don't shoot straight.Just sayin' people that love 'em,well...love 'em.thus the warm fuzzy comment(in case anyone misunderstood my meanin')
If you have to ask, well...
You need to shoot a Hill! LOL!
man,
Looks like I might have started another fire.

dragonheart-shooting a Hill bow is definately on my to do list:)
It ain`t for everybody. For me I shoot one because I enjoy shooting it more than any other bow I have. I see no drawbacks in shooting one and Good Lord Willing will be sporting pics of it laying across deer in about 7 weeks are so....RC
I am having fun with the thread and learning a bunch at the same time.
Old dogs can learn new tricks!
It didn't take me as long as I thought it might to morph my shooting style over to that displayed in the John Shulz video "Hittem like Howard.
God bless,Mudd
It isn't really for following ... just for jumping in chatting about Hills and Hill style bows .
It may look intimidating because of its size but its about as relaxed as a thread can get ... with eye candy to boot !
Have you also noticed , that compared to other threads , what an articluate and handsome bunch the Hill enthusiats are ?
Jus Sayin ......
This morning it was hot, muggy and not a breath of a breeze. I loaded up my quivers left and right handed with the appropriate arrows, several trips later all of longbows were under my apple tree out back and went out to shoot 50 arrows out of each one of my hill style bows, trying to decide which one was going to be my prime hunter for the year. That is 650 arrows shot, it is a toss up between my whip ended 68" 58 pound yew/bamboo or my 66" 64 pound Schulz Legend. You Hill shooters are nuts in the head, NOT AS NUTS AS ME!!!, but still nuts. And to think that I gave away about half of my bows last year and I still miss them. Just kidding, it is hard to know when one has too many longbows.
my intro to hill bows was when iwent to bob wesleys bow camp for some expert instruction he didnt care much for my rd longbow i got to shoot some of his bows and quickly became adicted to the hill style one reality though is a state of the art hybrid bow will at 10 lbs less wt willbe up to 20 ft per second faster with the same arrow
Well...if'n I was still a youngster in college, I think there might be a way to turn that thread into a Master thesis.

The American Longbow: The Element of Style!
With all the recent ILF and carbon / foam/ nano hype, this backlash is natural and expected. I for one am looking to see a major resurgance of the Great Northern Critter Gitter; IMHO the greatest meat maker ever. Although I hope not as I recently picked one up for $260!!
I love that there is a Hill Bug thread closing in on 300 pages and a Hill Bug Discussion thread already at three pages. I feel this weird urge to start a Hill Bug Discussion Meta thread.
For we who are less than computer literate, please explain (a Hill Bug Discussion Meta thread)
Thank you!
God bless,Mudd

dick, that's the reason for the quick search page. i refresh it several times a month. it takes those hundreds of pages of text and images, and compresses it all into one web browser page that can be individual word/phrase searched and buzzed through every single post and image real fast.
the link for the hhbug quick search page is always located in the very first post of that thread.
ditto's for the american flat longbow slide show, which is now updated almost daily.
I have not been following after the first 80 pages...but I did go to the update and found the slide show just fantastic..........
sweet shooting bows
I sure don't follow or read the whole thing either, I just peruse it and scan it for things of interest to me, and I enjoy being a small part of it.
I never miss a post. I have seen some beautiful scenery and bows on the HH thread as well as some valuable shooting tips with the Hill style bow. I check the thread at least 10 times per day. If I was a better hunter that lived in a prettier area and was more adept with a digital camera, I could contribute more. As it stands, I am living vicariously through you guys. I will do my best to post pics when my new bow gets here though. I hope that next year I will get out of state to hunt elk. Those are some awesome animals.
