Title: Static Recurves - who makes them?
Post by: saumensch on July 25, 2011, 01:53:00 PM
Hi,

i recently grow more and more interested in a static recurve. So now my question is who makes a decent one?
I have found the Belcher- and the Eaglewingarchery ones, are there other bowyers with websites who offer static recurves?

Thanks alot,
Axel

RER bows, Dryad, both sponsors

Dryad offers the Orion and they also make the Black Mountain Sheepeater and Shaman.  I've got an Orion and a Sheepeater Spirit, both excellent bows.

Eaglewing by Steve Tallant "sixby".  Check out the review section for the Eaglewing Talon 11, great reviews.  He is also a sponsor.

Jack Kempf and Sixby make some really great shooting static limb bows.
They are both on my wish list but the reviews are very positive for both.

+3 for the Dryad Orion, I have shot one owned by Ron B. a.k.a Elkchaser, and it is one of the smoothest drawing bows I have ever shot.

those are really nice. I especially like the looks of the RER,
I am building a new model that shoots absolutely fantastic. The Talon 11. Check the Review section for pics and reviews.
Sorry but no pics on my website yet of this model.
God bless you all, Steve

Have 2 RER's - the 3 piece XLR and the fifties style retro - both shoot great.  The retro is the quietest bow I have ever shot.  Haven't shot the others mentioned here - but I don't think I would trade the ones I have!

Guys, not trying to steer off topic but can someone explain the advantage or reason for the static limb tip design?  Thanks.

Here's an old thread I started and has some great pics of some statics and some of the great guys on here who shoo them. It also has a lot of additional information. Oh and Tommy Boy the static recurve in my pic is a John Brooks bow, with the old style Grumley brush nocks.

I don't know if the Brackenbury Peerless is as fast as the RER, but it is plenty fast enough and is the most perfectly made and best shooting hunting bow I have ever shot. If there is a bowyer who is as much of a perfectionist as Bill Howland, I would almost be afraid to meet him, and he might be afraid to admit it!

We build statics in both our bolt-down Orion and our ILF Epic bows.  Lengths from 54 to 66 inches.

I've not shot my Talon 11 through a chrono, but i've shot enough to know about how fast is fast.

I'd say mine at 40#@28" shooting around a 400grn arrow is slinging and arrow around the high 180's somewhere.

I just picked up a new RER Vital and I love it.
I strongly recommend kevin and sue, good people and reasonable prices.  You don't see RER bow up on the classifieds very often for a reason.
If you like the old nostalgic bear statics take a look at javaman's reproduction with the deerslayer tips.  So much mojo and his grips are nice.  I just can't wait that long for a bow to be made.

I certainly can reccomend KIrks BigFoot statics. Funny thing is I didn't thnk about it being a static. It is one of the quickes  and smoothest bows I have ever shot and absolutely no handshock I can feel in mine. Very impressive.
I can say this from the customers I have that have shot many of these bows that there is absolutely no reason to get in a two year line in order to have a really great static bow. Every bow and bowyer that has been mentioned here builds a super top quality bow IMHO. The only reason most feel that their particualr brand is the Valhalla of all bows is because they have not shot the rest of them. (grin)
God bless you all, Steve
