Anybody know if anyone makes and sells stone pointed arrows that can be used for hunting?
Sure; Ted Fry at Raptor Archery is a sponsor and will make them for you.
I got some awesome heads off of Eric Rains (606)340-1757.
3rivers now sells functional stone and obsidian points, but you will have to mount them yourself.
go to flintknappers.com and check out Mike Cooks points. He is one of the best knappers around. look at his work and you will see what I mean.
Just a note to make sure they are legal where you will be hunting. I do not thing that they are legal everwhere.
I always thought it would be cool to take any deer with a stone head. Then one of my older friends made a statement that kinda stuned me. He stated "if stone head seem so great then why in the hell did the indians switch to steel so fast".
Still, I think it would be cool as heck to do it ol' school.

Mike, i sentt you a pm.
In answer to your question about switching to steel Troy, I would bet that was on the standpoint of manufacture time and not effectiveness,
I have taken several animals with stone points , they died just like the ones I shot with steel.
A sharp well placed point will do the job.
A friend of mine is a flint knapper. In fact, each of his 6 kids had the umbilical cord cut with his/her own flint knife. He makes a few for friends, but reminds everyone that it is sort of a 1-shot deal. They are razor sharp, but very fragile. One shot and you replace them.

Troy the Indians switched to steel as they were much easier to make than a stone point. This means that they could spend more time actually hunting instead of making their points. A stone point can be just as sharp and as strong as a steel point if it is made correctly.
