I received these two journals from Tim at Farr West a couple of days ago but work has kept me from being able to post about them - although it hasn't kept me from admiring them!
Tim does great leather work, by hand I might add. I have looked high and low for a journal to meet my needs and these are farr (get it) and above better than any I've seen available elsewhere. I needed something functional and durable enough for tough outdoor use with the ability to replace the notebook inside. If you've seen the commercial products available, most are none of the above and none of them measure to these.
You will note that these are made to fit the Rite in the Rain notebooks which are made of thick moisture resistant paper. Replacements are readily avialable and are offered in a variety of line patterns for those who may have use for something other than just plain writing (engineers, surveyors, military, contractors, etc). Now I can finally began organizing my field notes, hunt prep lists, dates & times of special occasions all in one place.
Tim is great to work with and listened to all my questions and concerns and provided real answers along the way. I can't say enough about his service.
Here are some pictures:

Having photobucket/computer issues. Turn your computer sideways :D

My best hunting buddy, friend and mentor's birthday is coming up and I ordered the second journal for him. He's many years my senior and I've learned more things of value from him than any one single person I can think of - including the value of taking notes. Now perhaps we can both stop writing on our hands (and losing valuable information).
I'll keep working with photobucket and try to get some better pictures up.

I like the looks of those and have had the same problem finding a good journal that holds up to my abuse. Do you mind if I ask how much those cost ya?
-
They start around $60 including the notebook but Tim can customize them with the cost adjusted accordingly.
-
is there a web site? they look well made.
-
Those look great thanks for posting. I believe Ill save the composition note books for something else and get one of these!!
-
what are the dimensions?
-
The outside dimensioms are approximately 7.5" X 5.25" and the notebook is slightly smaller - which seems perfect to me, the right mix of portability and usefulness.
Tim is a sponsor here and has a web-site but I think it's down for maintenance at the moment: www.Farrwestleather.com (http://www.Farrwestleather.com)
Or you may just try sending him a PM. His handle is the same as his name "Tim Roberts".
These are well made out of quality leather and should last a lifetime while still looking good and keeping your notes safe!

Very nice!

I broke my phone the other day & just found Tim's number. If anyone is interested, send me a PM.

Thanks for the comments!
They will be listed on the website when it is turned back on later in the coming week. Would be sooner but Montana was calling! There are different sizes of the rite-in-the-rain books and if wanted I can make something to fit what you would like. The design possibilities are as limited only by our imangitions!
Thanks,

Very, very nice! That's a journal that could be passed on to future generations to enjoy. As a journal keeper for 43 years I appreciate a fine way to keep field notes.

Those are very cool. I've been wanting to start keeping a hunting journal and I believe this year I will. TRW
