Hey just got out of the eye Dr.s, and confirmed what knew, but still. I'm left eye dominant, and I'm right handed, but my right eye is also 3 times worse than my left. Now when I shoot I shoot with both open, does dominant eye affect me so greatly with traditional equipment as it would with modern compounds with peeps and such? I'm new to trad and shoot decent but am not great! Please help
Do you shoot left or right handed?
Depends on how you shoot. If you aim by looking at the target and don't use the arrow as a sight in any way, eye dominance doesn't have much of an effect. If you use point-of-aim, split vision, barrel sighting or some other type of aiming in which sight of the arrow comes into play, then eye dominance does have a substantial impact on right left arrow impact.
Will u ever be accurate if looking at the target? Or is using the arrow or other methods u mentioned better? Can u explain some of the others? Because I do just look at the target, it was explained to me it's like throwing a baseball, just concentrate at what u are looking at. Right or wrong?
Right handed
interestingly, howard hill was right handed and left eye dominant.
Good to know, that's def. A confidence builder!!
If Im not mistaken Fred Bear shot left handed right eye domaniate . I read some where that he used to shoot right handed but switched to left to over come target panic .
What I'm about to suggest amounts to heresy: Try closing your left eye when you shoot. Yep, everyone's heard that it's a big no-no to do this with a tradbow or with a scoped rifle, but it won't hurt you to try it. Then, if it does you no good, dismiss it. It's improved my shooting.
See if you can try someone's left hand bow for a while. You being left eye dominant and with better vision, it may surprise you. Good luck and have fun.
Aim your bow. Close left eye. If target does not move, don't worry about it.
Right handed / left eye dominant / switched to lefty shooting and haven't looked back!
Left handed, right eyed... switched to right handed 50 years ago and never looked back.
There are both valid options to try and reasons to remain unchanged if you wish as already presented.
'Trad Gang' - What a wonderful resource.
Best of luck!!
I am left eye dominant but shoot right handed also....have tried to shoot left haned and it just is not natural for me....I shoot with both eyes open and shoot well out to thirty-thirtyfive yards....do what works for you...
Thanks for the advise guys ! I have a lot of good ideas to help me out now!
for whats its worth im left eye dominate and do EVERYTHING right handed except shoot.
I was left handed left eye dominant and got a clot in my left eye. Lost about half of the left eye and my brain changed over immediatly to right eye dominant. I still shoot left handed and cant tell the difference since I do shoot instinctive. And yes I am a very good shot and would know if there was any difference. Frank
left eye shoot my bow right handed and a gun left handed just feels right shoot instinctive
You say that you are new to the stick and string, but have shot compound. With the advice already given and about 5,000 shots, you'll be just fine.
thanks Ric!that was my main concern see because i do shoot instinctive ive never use the methods that others talk about, but it is just learning the bow, and because i am left eye dominant, i see the arrow in my perif. vision and can use that as somewhat of a guide. im glad im getting glasses and will be able to see better.

Im totaly blind in my left eye. Using the one i have left works very well for me. :D
When I first tried shooting I didn't know about right or left I dominate. I tried to shoot right handed and did ok. Than an elderly gentleman gave me the eye test and I am left eye dominate. After a couple of pulls with my left arm I was shooting better than I was with my right. I keep both eyes open and the targets just started coming naturally to me. So I think it does matter but what's just as important is time spent practicing and practicing......
I'm right handed and left eye dominant.
I used to shoot right handed.
I have been shooting left handed (both eyes open) for more than twenty years.
I much prefer it that way.
Just keep lookin and shootin, the more you do it the better you get.
