Title: Doug Hill Longbow
Post by: deadmule on July 22, 2011, 05:23:00 PM
Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone here on tradgang has owned or has had any experience shooting a Doug Hill longbow and if so, what are your opinions of it?

I'm looking at buying a used one (I don't think there being made anymore) and I know nothing about these bows. I would appreciate any input that you may have.

Thanks,
Deadmule

The 1 I shot a few times many years ago had a LOT of handshock, did not care for that particular 1 at all.

I happen to have two of Doug's bow and do not find any shock issues with either of mine.  They are well made, nice shooters, and plenty fast.

Dave Johnson and Doug Hill from Oklahoma both made quite a few bows that were very similar since Doug learned how to build bows from Dave. They were the standard Howard Hill type longbows and very well made.

I appreciate everyone's input. Does anyone know when Doug Hill stopped making bows or does he still make em?

I wish I could shoot it first...I'm about 400 miles south of where the bow's at. Looking at it through an online store.

Deadmule - I think Doug was always interested in making custom rifles and went back to making them.  Again he made very nice bows.  Of course they will have more hand shock because of the Hill style.  I don't think he made any reflex/deflex style bows.

Thanks Gordon. I think I've heard enough to convince myself that I'm going to purchase the one I've been looking at. I have a HH "Big Five" and like the style and the way it shoots...which the way it sounds, the DH is very much like it.

Thanks to everyone for your help.
