I was driving through Rockford, MI today and I stopped in a new shop called Black Dog Outfitters. At least I think that was the name, but anyways they had a wall full of recurves and longbows, new and used. It's right next to Rosie's Diner so you can get lunch and check out some bows. Just thought I'd share the info!
Yep, Black Dog Outfitted is the name. Right off the US 131/M57 exit. Tom Hackbardt is one of the owners and a true ambassador to the traditional community. I am so lucky to have this resource in my backyard.
They just opened in June after moving down about 7 miles from Sand Lake. Excellent people there and very willing to help out. Tom knows what he is doing when it comes to Traditional. Nice shop there for all hunting/fishing gear...2 miles away for me
I think this is the shop that was at Sand Lake. There was a black dog wondering around the place.
Yes, they moved and greatly expanded. It's less than a mile off of 131.
It's the best trad store in the state, in my opinion.
If anyone is in the Grand Rapids/Big Rapids area and on 131, and they shoot trad bows, it's a must stop place.
Tom is great and he helped me get into traditional archery. When I walked into his old shop, I didn't even know how to string up a trad bow.
Here's the website. Scroll down a bit and you can see part of one wall with some trad bows. There's another wall with even more longbows. I believe they have over 100 trad bows in stock...

Oh yeah, when there, stop into Rosie's Diner which is in the same parking lot. They filmed the old Bounty paper towel commercials in the building, before it was moved.
It's been on the Food Network, etc. It's a great, old school diner from another era.

+1 5 miles from my house. Great place!!
And...all of Rosie's menu options are low fat, low calorie! LOL
About once a year, after a couple heart stents, I allow myself a Rosie's splurge treat. Nothing like big, thick, super onion rings, a kraut dripping rueben, followed up with a "real" ice cream soda, from a real old school soda fountain.
That and my cholesterol meds.
Ah, once a year...once a year!
I wish it was just a touch closer!
We always stop at Rosie's on the way up to Baldwin and I get a monster burger and a milkshake! So now it's even better I can eat some low cal food and then go look at some bows. He had a whole bunch of used bows too. A nice change from all the crossbow focused bow shops.
Looks like a nice place. I have to get back up that way soon so I can stop in.
I was also involved in the relocation of Rosie's and one of the other dinners to their current location so it will be fun to stop in for a visit.
1 mile from me! ;)
