Title: arrow size for a 38# stick
Post by: Big Fisherman on July 19, 2011, 03:26:00 PM
38#, 68" longbow requires what diameter arrow?  The arrows I use for my 40# recurve fly sideways at 10 yards and are uncontrolable at any greater distances.  I use 19-16's in my lower weight recurves.

Your recurve's shelf is probably cut past center and your long bow is not cut past center. This is why your arrows for your recurve don't work for the longbow.

Perfromance is likely better from recurve as well. I would try a 1816, diameter does not matter so much. It is the spine of the arrow that matters. If you draw 28"s, try a 29" 1816 with a 100-125 grain point. Shawn

I'm shooting an  1816,125gr head 29" long out of my 38# longbow. My bow is cut to center and has a 1/16" plate. Fly great and hit hard.I draw 28".

If You go the wood route I would think 5/16" 40-45 @ 29" with 125-145 head.

If you go Alum.  I agree with the 1816's.

Thanks,  have a couple of 18-13's at a friends place.  Will try them.  If there is some improvement will pick up some 18-16's.  I guess I'm not accustomed to having to shoot around the handle.
