Hi all , The wife and I are planning a trip to the states in 2015.I relise it's a while away but since we are planning to bring the kids (4 Boys) and we want to stay for about 3 months, then plenty of planning is needed.
I thought I might ask for advice from the locals as to what you would recomend in your area that you would consider a must see . I think that info from locals will be the difference between , a holiday , and a once in a lifetime experience for us all.
Thanks in advance
Clint
Well...
If you come through Missouri I would recommend touring the Anheuser-Busch brewing factory. Then have a big plate of toasted ravioli, fried mushrooms, hot wings, and chase it all down with an ice cold Budweiser bottle that hasn't been off the line for longer than a day.
Missouri wine country is also extremely beautiful to tour and explore..
Also, St. Louis Zoo is completely free and one of the top rated in the world.
Do I sound like an alcoholic now?? Lol
Honestly though, I have been all over the country and a good chunk of the world. And if I were on a limited time schedule I don't think Missouri is really a state that I would spend much time in.
Some DEFINITE places to visit: Washington D.C., Florida, the smoky mountains and rocky mountains, Maine, Colorado, Maryland, Texas, Montana, Oregon and North Carolina.
California is pretty much worthless... but it gets a lot of hype. :biglaugh:
Clinton do you know where in the states your going,if I were a first time visitor I think the grand canyon trip would be a good choice.
Clinton I have a feeling this could get large.
Texas is the place to be.Depending on what time of year that is.
Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming.
Wyoming is what America was.
Arkansas has the only public diamond mine that I know of in the US. Everyone is welcome to come look for diamonds at The Crater of Diamonds State Park. Might get lucky.
Yall know the world is supposed to end Dec. 21 2012,right? If it dont, The rockies in colorado are worth seeing, but depending on the time of year your coming I would have to say see Alaska.
Do a two week bus tour of the National Parks out west. You will not be dissapointed.
Rent an RV and spend 3 months seeing DisneyLand, Yellowstone and 100 other great places.
Well at this stage I have a map on the wall next to me and we are just marking off places we would like to check out. we would like to be there during the spring or late summer early autum. 3 months isnt enough time as far as I'm concerned but unless I can find someone to sponsor me for a work visa then thats all we can do. .Currently on the list is Oregan, Newyork Vegas and florida. But I will add yoyur suggestions guys Thanks and keep them coming
PERSONALLY, if I had three months of pure free time, I would park at the edge of a wilderness area and disappear for three months. But your family might not appriciate that very much.
Florida, Montana, California, Oregon, Washington DC, I would start with those- 3 months is a good amount of time. Are you driving or flying when your here?

I second Yellowstone National Park. Definitely worth a visit.
Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon, The Boundry Waters in Minnesota, the Great Lakes and the Smoky Mountain national park.
You might want to consider the Fred Bear Museum and while in Mighigan check out the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes of NW Michigan as well as the Pictured Rocks of Lake Superior. Not too many people are aware of the beauty of NW Michigan. The sand dunes are pretty cool and the pictured rocks are fantastic! Not to mention seeing Fred Bear memorabelia would be awesome!
Here are a couple links for the Fred Bear Museum, Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes and The Pictured Rocks.

I am currently camping and hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado and would definitely suggest it as a must see. Lots of elk, moose, deer, water falls, crystal clear creeks and lakes... the list could go on but you get the point. Will send some pics from this trip if interested.
Another recommendation for Yellowstone Park. Then go South through the Colorado mountains(Grand Teton National Park, etc.)You can continue South and see the New Mexico Rockies as well.
Lots of beautiful things to see.
Along with Yellowstone, I would also recommend Glacier or even Olympic parks in Montana or Washington State. I lived in Washington, DC area for a bit and a lot love to come and see the Smithsonian museums and the many monuments there. If near that area also check out the Great Smoky mountains and the Blue Ridge Parkway. In California you could also check out the sierra nevadas including yosemite.
Are you bringing a bow, Clint?
All the best to you and your crew!

There are plenty of places that are worth their weight in gold to see.............Iowa isnt one of them!!!!!!
STAY AWAY!! :readit: :bigsmyl:
I second NW Montana.....many a west coastman have visited the Glacier Park area and have ended up moveing there. As long as its not dry ( no fires ), plan a late Augest trip.
Im headed there in about 25 days :goldtooth:
The BlackHills of South Dakota are always a favorite place for me to visit. My wife and I also always enjoy Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming and Glacier National Park in Montana. There's a lot to see in the West.

hey put rafting the royal gorge in Canon City colorado on the list.. It's a hoot!
visit Aspen, Breckenridge and the air force academy.
Thanks for all your imput Guys. Yellowstone is a definite as well as the Grand Canyon and rockies. We will be driving a bit I think but if the wife can get over her fear of flying we ay set up a base and fly from there. I will have a bow on board for sure and I plan to go home with at least 6or maybe I will just pack up a sea container and ship it back to OZ. Fred bear museum sounds great and I want to check out the Alamo. I will avoid Iowa 23feetup if you reckon its not worth the price of admission. I think the Wife and Boys will want to see hollywood but I would rather just fly over it and look out the window. I am planning to hunt a bit whilst over there so I have to plan it around the seasons as well.
