I know most of us had heroes growing up...in all sorts of different sports as well as hunting....And, there will be a follow up post later with a spin off of this original question...
Now, THIS topic/question is for those that are 30 years old and older....
Who is your Trad Bowhunting Hero that is YOUNGER than you by at LEAST 10 years . If all possible...the next generation down.
Being that if I just said younger...I would have to either think really hard about choosing one because there's lots of guys near my age I think a lot of. And, I might have to ask a few of them there age to make sure they were younger.
So again, THIS topic/question is for those that are 30 years old and older....
Who is your Trad Bowhunting Hero that is YOUNGER than you by at LEAST 10 years . If all possible...the next generation down.
Mine is Randy Burtis. If you have to ask why...you haven't been paying attention around here. Cause I've stated it more than once.
OK...Your turn....
My brother. He is 28 (a little less than 10 yrs. difference) and has never taken anything larger than a rabbit, but has never even thought about touching a wheel bow.
Chuck "Tutuu" Hanson, originally from MT, now lives in Craig, Alaska. Chuck comes on here occassionally.
He has arrowed every Big-Game animal in Alaska except bison (near impossible to get a tag) and elk (limited tags). That means moose, caribou, black bear, grizzly, brown bear, muskox, dall sheep, mtn goat, Sitka blacktail deer.
My son eagleeye 9 years old. (http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj10/longbowben/DSC06864.jpg)
How old is that Shelton kid? He's a cool young Trad guy!
Then there's the Cade parade...all of us following his adventures!
Tyler and Jen Receveur are nothing short of awesome!
WOW....tough choice!
Cant wait to sit in a tree with him on his first trad deer this year. But he is a very good hunter allready 5 deer and one of them is a great buck.He was also in NAW at 5 years old.And i hope to write a article about our hunts this year again.
Even though I've never met him I'm gonna have to go with Skyler. He's already a very acomplished archer and bowhunter and has a great group of friends around him. What more could you want?
Fred Eichler (if he's forty-something?)
My son Lee,BrianO and Shannon from Arkansas and That Manitoba stickflinger fella .all class acts not just as Archers, but as true people.I've got to throw in Cacciatore and Mudd. There both only around 6 months younger but at my age I can't remember Terrys request.
Oh, I almost forgot that long haired kid that I live through. Trad Tusker I think.
Andy Ivy. No question.
Not fair Terry.
You took mine and started the post.
Randy is a great role model for anyone young or old.!
I know a hand full of young hunters that would fit that bill.
Randy, gets my vote as well. I've known that "kid" for twenty years now. He turned into quite a fine young man, and great bowhunter.
I am not saying this guy is my Hero, but he has impacted my shooting more than anyone else in all of my 63 years. Rod Jenkins is a man who can improve the shooting of even an "old dog". I will ad that I have not attended his shooting class, I have improved by just listening and paying attention to him when we talk about shooting. I'd bet that if I ever attend one of his classes, I will improve even more.
I believe Skyler has the skill and will to get it done day in and day out he is my hero.
Another vote for Ryan (Stickflinger) from me...the fella was raised right, shoots a bow like most of us wish we could, and knows not only how to hunt, but how to get others hunters close to critters :archer2:
I have two. My number one pick would have to be Kenneth "Spanky" Neal and my close second would be Nathan Steen.
I don't know of any other two pups that are as dedicated to being as true to old style archery than these two.
But there are other characteristics that would also make them both good candidates. (IMHO)
God bless,Mudd
I also have two.
Being as I am 60 they are both at leat 10 years younger than me.
Terry Green and Curt Cabrera
Have met and hunted with both and two of the finest men I have the pleasure of calling friend.
Danny
My son Andrew. He is 30 years of age and I'm 68. He has done more to keep me in archery and bowhunting all of these years. Don't want to forget my other son, Bain. Bain got me started into archey and bowhunting many years ago and I am truly grateful. Outside of family I would have to say Lee Robinson of Keep It Simple Archery. Lee has helped me out alot over the years.
Good thread and I would have to go with Skyler and Cade. Then there is a Cadet member that was in the bow swap that could fit the bill as well Ol' Sambo.
Stiks
Skyler and Cade are both insperations to me to feed the pasion to my kids!!!!
Here is David and William, My hunting buddies for many years to come!!!!

My wife, Laura, of course. She is 13 years my junior.
I must agree with Robtattoo,Andy Ivey. How many guys that age have the experience and knowlege that Andy does?----------Bone
Bill Dunn. Has the video to prove what he's shot. Makes great bows and represents Trad Bowhunting well. Great guy. I'm 57 and I know that Bill is younger than 47 :bigsmyl:
I'd have to go with Randy Burtis, with Skyler comin in as a close second.
Here's my two heros, Skyler and Mason. These two young fellas and others like them are the future of traditional bowhunting.
They've grown a little since I first met them just a few years ago.
Mines Nick Georgeaid. He's not on here much , but I first met him when he was 12. He teaches economics at nc state now. He's as good in the woods as I know . and a great guy. You might remember a thread awhile back that Terry started about a pig shot with a helment cam. That was Nick. I got more but most are 10 yrs older. DB
Going with my little girl, Miss Mattie Mae

Skyler!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm going to have to go along with Robtattoo,Andy Ivey.
Andy Ivey is the man!
LD
I'm 65 so most modern day greats are 10 yrs younger. My pick is Fred Eichler, his accomplishments are amazing.. I'd vote for Ron LaClair but he's an old fart like me so I can't..
Andy Ivey for me. How many continents has he hunted/guided with stick and string? Very accomplished for his age, for any age for that matter!
Up and comers are Skyler, Cade, and EagleEye.
Many others I admire are too close to my age to qualify.
Hey Buckwheaties, if you're only 65 than you qualify to be my 10 years younger hero.. :D
I'm goin' with Andy also!!!
Mine would be my youngest. Can't get enough hunting and fishing. Here he is a couple years ago with his first bowkill.

I just love reading his posts and I think he lives to hunt.
Mine would be Guru and Arwin, not so much for being successful bow hunters but for the time they spend teaching their sons and passing the torch along.
Very flattered guys. I hope you are all well
Iv been flat out since leaving the US and had very little time to contribute here.
I spend most of the time now way out in the middle of nowhere (paradise) guiding bowhunters.
Mark iv been accused of that from time to time. It really Sucks getting payed to hunt and fish. :campfire:
My Girlfriend Bec's also shoots and hunts (of course) , we'l be back in South Africa for 3 months once im finished with the hunting season here in Australia.
I have a Survival backpack hunt planned
I have not meet many folks here on TradGang that are younger than me. But the one i have actually meet and hunted with is by far the most accomplished and well spoken young man i have ever meet. I am sure he will be a leader in this sport for many years to come.
Skyler Wilson.
I know he's gonna get the "Big Head", .....
Skyler Wilson.
Have a couple extras:
Christopher Surtees
Justin Surtees
Heck throw in Terry Green for good measure.
Everybody's at least 10 yrs. yonger than me!
With out a doubt, for me it would certainly be Andy Ivy. What a life to live at that young age to be able to go all over and Bowhunt. I really envy him in a very good way. And pulling a very close second would be Curt Cabrera. I don't know how old Curt is, but he looks like he could be in his late thirties or early forties. I am 57.
Tony
Have to say, that darn Andy Ivy has been on more adventures in his young lifetime, than I'll ever see. Love seeing his pictures and reading his posts. He is truely "living the dream". Get a kick out of his sister too. Looks like a very close knit family.
although there's plenty of younger folks here than me and many who are worthy candidates, I would have to say Skyler---Don's done well by this young man and Skyler has proven many times that he's got the right stuff
Bowspirit. The guy has all but taught himself to shoot and hunt. Never even thought about wheels...yet his harvests keep increasing.
Cade is another. And impressive young man for sure.
I haven't met Skyler yet, but from reading on here, he is another one that comes to mind.
Impressive.

Rob, you are dead on with that call!!!
I had the pleasure of meeting and hunting in the same camp this year with Skyler and I would have to say I was impressed ... my vote is Skyler for a total Trad package kinda kid.
Good job Don
Don't have one unless its my son.
My hero or heros would have to be Gene and Barry,Roger Rothaar,And the Mittens,But they are older than me.Younger would be Brian Wessel.Outstading young man,and has doneso much in his life for a young man
I don't personally know anyone at least 10 years younger than me that I would consider my trad hero, so based on what iI have read and seen on Trad Gang, Skyler would be my man.
Todd Steadman from Reno. He juggles his business and family. Then he finds times to help anyone who needs it. He is a stalwart at the local shop and there when needed. He is a farrier who drives miles to get to rural ranches, stands in the open weather under huge horses. At his age, most folks would not be be to get out of bed. He beat me last tourney bt 50 points. He is a true traditional archer and friend
I would like to meet everryone mentioned on this list. I have had the awesome pleasure of meeting Skyler and if all is well I will get to spend much more time with him. The rest I hope to meet soon. It is Truely an honor to be listed with the others on this thread.
Gotta go with my hunting Buddy Chris Spikes. One of the best shots with a recurve I`ve seen and good company in the swamp.RC
(http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w39/rcswampbucket/IMG_0590.jpg)
I'm with Randy on this one, would love the opportunity to meet everyone listed, they are all inspirations to all of us.
Dang! thats easy, without a doubt it is Ben Parolini. He has accomplished more in his personal life ,one of the best shooters i know.Has some very nice trophies to his credit.Anyone who knows him would agree nicest guy you would ever meet.Glad to say he is my friend.Lots of pictures of Ben on my website in the trophy room and competions page.
My son Joe because he walks the straight and narrow path.
I still can't get over how much Joe has grown over the last year! Glad to hear he is choosing the right!
Great thread Terry. Though I 'm a few months shy of 30 so technically excluded from the thread ;) , we've just had our first and he's about 1 month old. I have always enjoyed seeing pics and stories of you guys and gals with your kids. I hope my little guy enjoys archery and being in the outdoors as much as I do because I'd love to be able to share it in the same way many of you do with your kids.
Zane
I don't know that I would necessarily pick the word "hero", but I have to say that I greatly admire quite a few guys here on TradGang who are at least 10 years younger than I am. Terry Green, Andy Ivy, Skyler Wilson, Randy Burtis, Jeff Berberick, Gregg Dudley, Gregg Coffey, Curt Cabrera, Joe Coots, Chris Surtees (who can be considered a hero in many respects and will always be in my mind), and many additional young people. There are others who are both younger and older than I am whom I hold in the highest esteem. Ron LaClair is one of the "older" guys here who has been mentioned and is worthy of great admiration, and there are many whose names would have to be on the list of wonderful folks here. It is hard to fail mentioning wonderful men like Doug Campbell, Jeff "Tippit" Springer, Paul Kimbol, David Knipes, Larry Surtees, Rob DiStefino, and many additional men and women (too numerous to mention) who constantly contribute their time, money and assets to help others. Leaving out the names of so many of the great people on TradGang who set examples in their lives for us to try to live up to actually causes me pain. But I could type for hours and not put down the names of all of them. People like Charlie Lamb, Ray Hammond, the Wenzels, the Rowans, the Scukanecs, Walt Francis, Bob Morrison, Claudia Eisenmann, Kathy Collister, Katie Gilbert, and all the other well-recognized and not so well-recognized people on this site, are too numerous to list. I am very thankful that there are so many wonderful folks here on TradGang that make up the traditional archery community. Thanks to all of you for being here.
Warning: The listing of specific names is not complete, and the fact that I did not name someone is in no way indicative of me not holding them in the highest regard. I intentionally left out many people who are friends of mine and easily worthy of the highest praise and recognition. The people I did list were, in part, named because of being widely known to so many people on this site, and they thus serve as good examples of the quality of the membership on this site. My best to all.
Allan
Since I don't have any Family Members Younger then Me that I know of that Bow hunts. I would have to say... Everyone that Hunts with a Bow (Trad Archery) that Servers in the US Military, Fire/EMS Department, Police department and in the Medical Field...
My Hats off to all of them. They go out of their way to Help keep US all Safe and Healthy.
I don't know if "hero" would be the word for me as I have not met either of these two and know nothing of them other than what I have read on this site. That being said as an avid elk and muley hunter, I am more than impressed by the accomplishments of Randy Burtis and Tracy Villwok. Of course I am only 42 so I don't know if I've got those guys by 10 years or not!
Mark Baker's boys, Kory and Boone stand out to me. Skyler, Jen, Tyler and many more that I can't recall right now deserve mention as well. I guess it is really that these fine young folks parents are to be commended for the time they spend with there kids and the examples they set. Gives us hope for the future of traditional bowhunting in particular and hunting in general.
:campfire:
I would have to say my daughter Marissa. Although she cant draw a legal hunting weight bow yet,her accomplishments have been awesome. Who knows, she may never climb that perch with a bow in hand. But the memories we've shared during her hunts are priceless. Not to mention the boys at school drool at her pics when she gets one.lol Shes a smart hunter and an excellent shot. I'm very proud of her.
Hero, well, she wants to be a doctor and help people. Need I say more.
As far as accomplishments go with a stickbow,I will have to say young Skyler. Although I've never met him,I've followed his hunts on here. He has shown what dedication to our sport can do. He appears to be mature beyond his years. I look forward to his adventures for years to come.
I'd also like to mention my nephew Hayden. I never had anybody to show me how to hunt growing up and now he has 2 of us. He's growing fast and will soon be flinging arrows at game. Regardless of the animals he harvests in the future,my favorite will ALWAYS be his first. I had the pleasure to sit a stand with him that day. Remember,it has been, and always will be about the hunt, not the harvest.
Nice thread T.
Not "heroes" but hunters I admire and enjoy reading about:
Andy
Skyler
Randy
Cade
mines gota be andy ivy :notworthy:
Missed this one. Having spent pretty close to a month in total sharing camp and hunting with Andy Ivy he has my vote. There are very few young guys, if any at Andy's age that have had the field time Andy has had. His love for the hunt and our traditional ways are second to none. Lots of other great young guys here as well but they are a few steps behind Andy, as are most of the old guys as well for that matter. Life is good to be foot loose and free with trad bow in hand.
Mason Roskelly, Firstarrow's son. A great kid to have in camp, always positive and upbeat!
Great post Terry!!!
Thanks,
Skyler Wilson because of his great upbringing in a loving and caring family!
