Title: Tradgang Snow Goose hunt?
Post by: kbetts on July 14, 2011, 10:42:00 AM
We have large population of snow geese that make their way to Delmarva area every year.   A local outfitter that has been guiding hunts here in DE for a few years has become my source of goose feathers starting last year.  I was wondering how much interest there would be in doing a Tradgang field hunt.  Obviously dates and times would be dependent on interest and availability but I think we could be accommodated.  How cool would it be to sit in the middle of 1000 dekes, dressed in white, while 200 birds try to land on your head?

Now THAT sounds cool.  In addition to tradbow, I am also a diehard waterfowler.  I've tried to shoot both ducks and geese with a bow over the years - without success.  One of my dream hunts is bow-geese.

This is in the preliminary stages as of right now.  The outfitter has accommodations at his place of residence and takes up to 10 hunters.  I wanted to do this last year but was too late and I only want to do it with a group of trad guys.  Once I have the guides' blessing, I will post their site.  I think this would be the first hunt of its kind.  Oh, and their photographer is amazing at capturing in-flight photos of pellets wrapping up geese.  I bet an arrow shot would be insane.

Depending on date, I'd give it a try.
I'm near Philadelphia so it is the back yard for me.
Let us know !

Do you think it will run a $300-$400 per day?

I want to say about $150 not including accommodations.  I think you could go last year for about $125.

I would drive from North Jersey to MD for that.  It would have to be a weekend hunt for me, though.

If we could get enough guys, it would be great to have a multi-day hunt like Friday-Sunday.  I would generally have to fly back on Sunday to get back for work but would like a couple days to justify the flight out.  Plus its a great excuse to make sure I get more than one day of hunting in.

I'm still waiting back for a reply.  I wanted to get on this early so we can hopefully get a good date and time to work with.  The fellow I contacted may be at sea right now as he spends a good part of his winter guiding.

Count me in.  I have written a dozen or so stories for TBM.  I'd think this would be a winner.

Kyle,

I'd like to be included.  It's a long drive from Hartly-what, maybe 30 minutes-but I think I can manage it.

Sounds like fun but I'm on the west coast. Lots of Canadas and an occasional Snow goose. What are you guys using to put 'em down? Broadheads? Judos?

I'm going to try ambushing some down on a river by me when the fall season gets going.  Should be fun to try!

I have done it with bow and gun many times. You can stand shoulder to shoulder and cant hear each other scream when they come in. I would try to make it for sure.

Got the reply today.  The outfitters are all for it.  I contacted A@A Outfitters in Frankford, De.  They were featured in an article by Wildfowl magazine last winter.  I am placing a call this week for current pricing and available dates.  I believe they have a website as they are affiliated with Sillosock Decoys.

Boys, this is going to be a blast.  One of the Andy's (A@A) commented that the footage would be incredible.  Yea ha!
