Title: Carbon setup help
Post by: thumper15 on July 11, 2011, 07:44:00 PM
I'm toying with the idea of making up some carbons for my MAII but since I know basically zip about them I need some help. The specs on the bow are as follows, 62" 59@28 the string is factory red/black and will have fur string silencers, my draw is right at 28" and shoot split finger. I was looking at goldtip 7595 with some type of 200gr head, weight tube and gpp about 12. Any advice would be appreciated.

Tips:

Carbons react quickly to being cut so cut a little at a time when tuneing. You cant put it back on

Its easier to cut some off the nock end when bare shafting rather than remove the incert each time.

Im trying some of the low temp hot melt glue (Made for carbons) and like it very much.

Ive tried and didnt like the weight tubes much, i would try some heavy incerts to get the arrow. weight you want.

I am buy no means a carbon guru but this is what i have found.

That shaft should work at 30". However, I just tried the weight tubes, didn't work for me. Made my arrows too weak.Couldn't cut them any shorter and side plate was built out as far as I could too.Even tried messing w/ the brace height. Once I took them out, back to great arrow flight.

Sorry but too stiff even at 30"s! If you draw 28"s go with a 55/75 cut to 29-29.5"s if you want to shoot a GT and shoot at least 225 grains up front maybe a tad more. You could go with most any .400 spine cut to 29-29.5"s and play with point weight and I would say you will need all of 225 grains up front. I shot a 62# Widow and draw 28.5"s and shot a 30" .400 spine with 225 up front and also a skinny string. Shawn

Is the MA II the same as the PMA? I used the PMA on stu's calc and the 75/95 works. But if the PMA is a different bow then I'm wrong,LOL!

I have an MAIII 53#@28. I draw 28" and shoot 29.25" GT55/75's with 70gr weights screwed into the insert,125gr BH, 7" cap wrap and 3x5" feathers.  I used Stu's calculator with the PMA built into the program and it was pretty much spot on.

I mentioned the 7595 GT as that was what came in the closest according to Stu's program with something around 230gr up front 29.5" length for the PMA. I don't know how it compares to the MA on the program. As for the tubes only thing I've seen is 3 rivers suggestion of crimping the tube to cut down noise.
