About a week ago I read a post on Jeffrey's Archery that talked about Jeffrey's having a new longbow called the Longhunter. So I wanted to see for myself. Many folks out there remember that Jeffreys use to make the Bamboo Longhunter for Dan Quillian. I got chance to visit Dan's shop back in the day when he was located in the back of that strip mall plaza in Athens(a great guy and an awsome shop). I always liked the longhunter and wished that it was offered with more wood opptions. Well Jeffrey's has brought the longhunter back. The bows that I saw were 64 inches and they have a wide variety of wood options, black or brown glass to clear glass with different veneers. The longhunter that I shot was 50lbs@28. Beautiful Zebra wood veneers and a joy to shoot. It also slung the CX150 that I was shooting with authority. A few pictures of the longhunter. I took these with a cell phone so please forgive. This is the zebra wood bow.

Gotta have one of those. Thanks for the pics.RC
Oh man, this is excellent news! I was shooting my Bamboo Longhunter last night, and you're right, it's a joy to shoot.
Those look great. Dan knew how to design a Longbow for sure. I'll be checking these out.
Thanks for the head's up!
Well,Doug which one did you get? ;)
I resisted temptation and did not pull the trigger. Perhaps later.
A fine bow indeed. Good to see it back.
Good looking design. Perhaps someday I'll see how one shoots.
Those are real beauties!
This is great news. Thanks for keeping us posted Interseptor.
great! i just got over that bow and now you want to bring it up again..... this itch just isn't going to go away until i get one.
Well Blaine if you have an itch, then scratch it! Your probably like the most of us. We buy a new bow and just slide it on the rack so the big boss does not notice! :bigsmyl:
my rack isn't that big YET! she would notice a 3rd bow since i just got my 2nd a few months ago. i'm going to push it for my christmas gift. :)
cool. Tom said he had something cookin last time i talked to him....
I want one!!!
Jeffrey used to make a longbow called the Classic Timberline...I had one made for me nearly 20 years ago...she was a real nice shooter. These in the photo look alot like it...
I've shot the Timberline and it is not as smooth as the new Longhunter. I'm not a true longbow guy and the Timberline had to much hand shock for me. The Longhunter that I shot had little to no hand shock. The Timberline, if I remember correctly, was a D-shaped bow. The Longhunter has a lot of reflex-deflex. You are going to enjoy shooting it!
I've got a Timberline and your description is accurate. Looking forward to shooting a Longhunter.
Do they come in any length other than 64 inches? Pup
They apparently don't keep up with the website, so I'll have to call when I'm ready to order one. It would be great in a 2pc.
The original Bamboo Longhunter came in 64" and 68", and Dan later added a 60" model for youths/short draws. I have a 68" and the first 60" Dan had Jeffrey make to prove the short design. Production models came with a sticker warning that the bow should not be drawn over 26". (Got it for my wife- kept the bow but not the wife. A man's got to have his priorities in order! :) ) Good to hear that the Longhunter will live on!
I had a 60 incher, about 20 years, ago due to my short draw. Man, I loved that bow. thanks, Don for confirming the existance of the 60 incher. everybody would tell me that no such bow was made, and I began to wonder if I ever had one. Last month, I saw a guy shooting one at the North Geogia Traditional archery shoot in gainesville, Ga. They need to make that bow again. Pup
Pup, they probably won't- Dan had to twist their arms to agree to make the 60" for him. That's why the warning sticker had to be put on the bow. Mine, being the prototype, doesn't have the sticker.
BTW, I shot my highest 3D score, 275/30 targets, shooting that 60" bow, pulling it 27". Shot that well one other time, shooting the 68" Bamboo Longhunter.
my buddy works at archery traditions, dans old store. and he says that they still own the patents for all the bow that jeffery made for dan. so did jeffery buy that patent?
I never heard of a patent on Dan's bows, although I suppose it's possible. Not likely due to the expense, and it would be impractical to defend against the hundreds of similar bow designs that are out there. The Bamboo Longhunter was adapted from a bow that Jeffrey had already made; Dan made some changes to the Jeffrey bow to result in the Longhunter.
Bought one yesterday... Bubinga riser Maple core with Zebra wood veneer's. Shoots awesome, just like my old Bamboo Longhunter. I spoke with Tom about the possibility of a Bamboo core being offered, but he didn't seem real responsive to the idea... said bamboo was too expensive and hard to get. No worries though, my bow is smooth, fast, and very forgiving.
Wow, lots of memories, I worked at Quillian's back in the late 80s and have owned several longhunters, might have to get another. Chris
Longhunter prices too??????
$625 riser choices are Zebra wood, Bubinga, Walnut with a Maple limb core and Zebra veneers.
Tom also has the above risers with black and brown glass for around $575. Looked like he had twenty or so Longhunters in stock.
Also I forgot to mention Tom had three Zebra wood risers for the Royal Hunter recurve ready to be sprayed... they looked sweet!
I have a pse sequoia longbow that someone told me jeffreys archery made.Does anyone know if thats true?
Mark, can you post pictures of your bow? Glad to know that somebody has picked one up.
gto, Jeffreys Archery made the origianl PSE Sequoia longbow and the PSE Raven recurve in the 'heritage series'. This was in the early '90's. PSE kept the names for quite a few years but I don't know if Owen made the later ones or not.
Shick
I checked it out and looks like they have the new website up and going. http://jefferyarchery.com
Shick thank you!It is a heritage series.I`m probably going to post it in the classifieds I just don`t ever shoot it
