who likes string nocks vs. brass nocks and why, pros and cons
I like the string nocks much better. They don't put a callous on my finger and are smaller.(the way I tie them anyway!). They are also lighter than the brass nocks.
i perfer string nocks over brass for one reason i have had problems with brass nocks tearing up the tip of my shooting glove. but as far as performance i dont think theres a advantage either way imo.
Tried 'em all and now use a simple brass nock.
I will use a brass nock to get my nock height close. After tuning I replace it with tied on string nock.
I use both. Don't really notice a difference either way.
I use string nocks because of how easy they are to screw up and down the string while experimenting with different heights. Also, string is cheap.
string nock, easy to tie, easy to adjust but stays where you want it, don't worry about messing up the serving with pliers when I move/remove it, doesn't groove out my tab, looks better
....oh yeah it's .0005ft/sec faster too

Same here.
I shoot 3 under so there's not a problem with the brass nocks for me. But I do use the string nock for a second nock.
string nocks (2) for me. they won't tear my glove, easy to adjust up and down the string. don
ditto with snag...I also shoot 3 under...so I have zero problem with the brass nock point. However......my buddy shoots split and he ruined the stall on his grant Young Fred Bear glove in a week!!!! He got a small burr when he clamped the brass nockpoint fast .....now he'll only shoot string nocks...
Like the string nock becase it free the string you have left over for sreivring to tie your nock no waste also use them for 30 yr it just flat work for me
One single brass nock for me. Never had a problem with a brass nock tearing up my tabs. Probably because with my 30" draw length and shooting 66" length recurves, the string angle isn't severe enough to tear up my shooting tab.

Same for me.
What Bulldog said!
I've been tying on my nocks since I started shooting Traditional over 15 years ago.Doesn't require any pliers to crimp on and won't scratch my bow and just looks more Traditional to me.
Shoot 3 under and I use a brass nock above and below my arrow. I have never had a problem with brass nocks. Simple and easy to use.
i always touch my brass nocks up on my paper wheel....smooth and shiny when youre done. or you can just file the burr down on your nock once you clamp it with your pliers. 10 seconds of filing will save you from tearing up your glove.
Brass nocks for me...I shoot 3u.

:clapper: Love it!!
Can't really tell a difference in the shooting. Once I settle on a nock height with the brass one I'll typically tie on a string one. Just a little more sexy, I guess.
Used brass nocks for years. Now use string nocks exclusively, love begin able to screw them up and down the string, great for tuning.
I tune my bows with brass and then tie on string nocks. I nock above and below.
Tie on string on all bows.
I tie my nocks. Don't like how brass nocks scar up my glove fingers.
Brass nocks for me, work well never had a problem. Split fingers and a tab.
I use sting knocks becaause I think things you make yourself are cool, and also because I'm cheap ( I prefer to think of it as being thrifty). I use dental floss, usually from free samples at the dentist office
string for me. I could never remove a brass nock without messing up the serving. It's also quicker for me to change a string nock point out.
No more brass since trying string which doesn't gouge or catch my glove. BTW, made my own brass nocks forever.
Brass nock set have a tendency to eat at the top of your arrow nocks. Another reason to tie on.
I always tie mine. I've used dental floss, string material, serving material, and they all work fine, but the best I've found is the white cotton string used to sew up the tops feed sacks. Tie it on, screw it up or down until the correct height is found, then add a dab of super glue. I shoot a lot, and I've yet to wear one out.

Now I tie them like this. Awsome how-to.
I prefer string, the brass ones can rip my glove or tab apart (not really but marks it). Seems smoother on release and have heard of brass of brass nocks cutting a string and didn't want it to happen to me.
I use tied on nocks top and bot. Light and easy to tie, and no waste if you use any extra from serving the string.
Like others I start with the brass and when I set the position I switch to the string nock, safer for my glove and my string too.
Both and never had a problem with brass tearing up tab or glove. Do like Newell said and hit them with a file to smooth them. Shawn
I use a string nock most of the time. For the times that I do use brass I have some that have rounded edges so they don't wear my glove/tab. You know how when you find something that you really like they quit making them....I bought 100 of them years ago just so I would never run out of them.

I did the same.......
String works fine. I'm just stuck in a "rut" and have almost always used em.
God Bless
When I shot split finger, I preferred the string nock because the brass nock would tear my tab.
Now that I switched to three under, its no problem. Now as far as any 'perceived' weight issue between the two, I don't worry about such petty things. Rather, I worry more about whether I'm sticking to proper form. In reality, if one doesn't employ 'proper' form, then it won't matter what kind of nock ones uses. Enough said.
Definately string! Brass was tearing up the cordovan tab. :nono:
I have used string for years, just like it better.
