Title: J.K. Chastain is the man...
Post by: Mike Mecredy on July 08, 2011, 04:32:00 PM
First I read all about him (and others) when I read Bertalan's "Traditional Bowyers of America".  Then I had a man contact me with a Wapiti recurve that had some damage to the edge of a limb, and he wanted me to make some new limbs for it.  Long story short, I got one look at that amazing design and said I can't duplicate it, but I could take some off the edges to the bottom of the slinter and make it useable.  That I did, and those limbs where so nice and wide I maybe lost a pound and a half in draw wieght.  I made a string and shot the bow.  It's nothing short of pheonominal.  I've shot lots of bows, and I never really liked 3 pc take downs, but this, even being a 3 pc take down, is totally out of the league of anybow I've ever shot.  I'm not kiddeing and I usually like to promote my own stuff, but I have to pass this  along.

I also talked a bit with him the other day telling him what I was doing and he he told me that he's been doing this bowyering gig for over 50 years.  Technically longer than BW, since they closed down for a time.

Yes, Keith is a very good bowyer. Lots and lots of experience. I have quite a few of his bows and they all shoot well. I am also a field representative for Keith and bring show bows with me to traditional shoots. He is known much too little east of the Mississipi...
