Hey Guys,
I hadn't planned on elk hunting this year due to a ruptured achilles but the doc said I should be ok to go elk hunting come september. I will only have a small window of 5-6 days to do a hunt. I have been on 4 other diy hunts and feel I wouldn't have enough time to try another diy hunt. I have never been on a guided hunt and have called over a dozen outfitters over the last week and a half with only one returning a phone call. Maybe it is just an off season for outfitters or maybe they are all full. I have searched all over the net and even did a search on here. Does anyone know of an outfitter they have personally hunted with or would recomend to 2 trad guys?
Thanks and any help would be much appreciated!
Yes and no PM me your phone # if you want can give some info on a hunt I go on ,,,,,,Sam,,,,,,
While I have no guide to recommend you can check the denver craigslist under sporting and there are a few guides and outfitters with open tags and slots posting there.
Robhood
You can check out 2Bear Outfitters in Hamilton, Montana. I have hunted with him and going back this year. They have a great camp and awesome cook as well. Alan Carter, 406-375-8453
Also try Circle K ranch in Delores, Colorado. They run a great camp as well and resonable prices on both outfitters.
Good luck
Dave
Taking my dad and brothers on our first hunt this September. We're going with Steamboat Lake Outfitters for a 5 day hunt, (we're unguided drop camp, but they offer fully guided on some private land). The tags are OTC in that unit of Colorado. Give Jake Hyland a call at 970-879-4404 and tell him I sent ya. Since this is my first hunt with them I don't have the personal experience, but I do know that Jake is a great guy. Good luck.

Contacting local Trad archers is good advice. Just any old elk guide won't do, most only guide for rifle hunters and take on archers as 'extra' money, having no knowledge of bowhunting limitations, not to mention Trad archery limitations. I had one guide get me up to about 130 yds from a bull and basically said, "There ya go, take the shot".
Mountain states guide service, Rob Degner. I will be hunting with him for the third time this year. You would have to spring for a NM landowner tag at this late date. You can google up his website.
