Title: How's Utah Elk Hunting?
Post by: snakebit40 on July 07, 2011, 12:27:00 PM
I was looking at prices and for out of staters Utah has some reasonable prices for a cow tag. I was just wondering if Utah has much for public land and elk population?

Lots of public, quite a few elk in the right spots. There are quite a few people as well, but you get a ways off the road and it's much less crowded. Get ready for a shock in seeing all the atv's. If you need some help pm me, I will be glad to point you to a few spots.

Maybe stead man can help us both.  I hunted last year and only heard them but never saw one.

I hunted muledeer in the Pahvant range in southern Utah.  I saw a lot of elk, some huge bulls and lots of cows.  I think it might be an area you can hunt cow elk in.  Beautiful country, but lots of atv's and people, still saw plenty of game though.  Good luck, Sam

Lots of people and atv's is an understatement, it was quiet a shock for me at first. Especially seeing the wife or girlfriend driving the truck with the guy standing in the bed with bow ready. lol

All in all though, if you get 200yds off the road your usually by yourself. Course that may or may not help, at least it really hasn't helped me as far as finding animals. A few yes, but not a whole lot to speak of. Beautiful country though!
