Nice pile of elk Whip and beautiful bow. Be pretty cool to run your CS broadhead through one this September huh?
Love to see elk on the ground! One of these days I'll be able to add my own pic! Keep 'em coming guys.
Great start to this thread Whip! Nice pictures with some dandy elk. I can hardly wait for September!

My mount from my 2010 longbow NM bull! Killed on a public land DIY hunt in the Gila. (http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z448/scedvm/038.jpg)
I wish I had as good of field pics as Whip but unfortunately I don't. I got to get better at that. Good luck to all of you who are going this year, won't be long now!.....Shawn
Is there anywhere that you can legally hunt for a spike bull? We are hoping to go out west hunting next year or the one after and I have always thought that a spike bull would make a nice mount. Mike
Mike, most units in NM are "any one elk" so spikes, calves, cows whatever are fair game.
PS: Sorry my photo is so large I tried to resize it but I am idiot when it comes to photobucket I guess!
Mike,
Utah has a lot of cow or spike elk tags. The big bull tags are hard to come by, but the spike tags are significantly easier.
Do you ever shoot at the Harrison 3D range?
Dave
Whip,
Were countin on ya this year bud ! Compton wasn't the same without your elk steaks on the grill.
Nice bull scedvm !!!
He aint no big one but Im sure proud of him , took two trips to get one but Im hooked. Will be in Idaho for 34 days after another one this year.Shot him at 4 yards one of my best hunting days yet,,,Sam,,,

WOW! 4 yards!? I would have to change my draws, but it'd be worth it.
X2 on what Whip said ... get those pictures posted Randy!!! I need to have something to aspire to this fall!

Thanks guys.
There we go! I wished I could put up a kill photo, I have tons of hunting photos though :)
There's something about elk and stickbows that just works well.
I'm new to the trad side of things. I've killed two elk with the wheelie bow. I hope some day I'll have the skill and confidence to try the trad bow that I don't own yet. :) Maybe even one I make.
I can't wait until September! Congratulations everyone on your elk.

Did you do a story on your bull Ryan? If so, I missed it while I was in the mountains myself. If you did, I'd love to read it - that's a great looking bull!
Very impressive guys! Love these elk threads
Man, you guys just had to go and start a ruckus in my brain. How am I supposed to go to sleep with those pictures running through my brain?
Nice elk everyone!
:notworthy: :notworthy: :campfire:
Cant wait for my first elk hunt this August.
Also am looking forward to getting home so I can see the pictures you have posted.

Here is the end result of 21 hours of elk hunting. Two were killed with longbows, one was killed with a recurve.
The biggest of the three was killed by my wife with her 52-pound longbow. (Derned girly luck!)

Oops, I accidentally posted the large version of that photo. Here is the 640 x 480 version. I have a feeling Rob will be deleting the large one shortly. . .

One day...
You guys are getting me all pumped up for my 2nd season! Beautiful animals everyone!
Awesome Rik!
How many hours of packing meat did you all have then?
Shedrock,
We packed them out with our llamas. It was a 12-hour round trip, six hours each way. 3,000 feet down to the truck, and 3,000 feet back up.
My wife and I killed the two bulls within three minutes of each other. While it was fun for the moment, and we were as excited as two bowhunters have ever been, we have promised that we will not DO THAT again. That was one heck of a pack out of there.
. . . Psst. . .don't tell my wife, but if she shoots a bull this year and another one comes prancing in to the party, I may not be able to resist. . .
A great many accomplishments! Thanks for the photos.
Gee's ferret, that's some impressive Elk . Guys I'm in Awe, next fall will be my 3rd time out in Co and hopefully 3rd time lucky, I just love being out their, but it would be nice to seal the deal in 2012 .
Congrats to each and every one of ya :)
Very impressive Rik getting three down in one hunt much less three in a day!
Holy Smokes!I better get on my bike and get ready for september. :bigsmyl:
Like everyone here very impressive.Always good when shared with your wife.
Just for fun, I thought I would share this one with you. He's a typical Idaho Raghorn. We usually let little squeakers like this go, but my freezer was getting a bit empty that year and I needed the meat.
: ^ )

Awesome pics all. This is sure getting me fired up for September! I never tire of elk topics!
Travis
Rik just because your wife killed a better bull than you does not mean it's ok to Photoshop until you feel like a man again. :bigsmyl:
Nice thread even the fakes.
Photoshop? Photoshop? Surely you jest!
I was just using Chuck Adam's camera. It makes everything look magically bigger than life.
I bet you love your llamas Rik!
Rik,
isn't that small bull the one you shot from front to rear, smashing bones in and out, and still the arrow had enough energy to stick a grouse that had the bad luck to walk behind the bull....boy was that grouse good eatin'....
:notworthy:
This is too good not to bring back and I believe elk season is getting close for you guys. Good luck and please post pictures of your hunts.
I'm never going to sleep... Going scouting next week and I'm getting antsy.
Rik, I was in Idaho a few years back and had the same problem. had to let a few of those guys go by in order to get to the really nice ones. Outfitter warned us about it too!. lol
Nice elk everyone! Cant wait for Aug. 31!
Here is my 2009 Wyoming bull. Heading west again in September. Great elk everyone!
