"Don't put off your dream hunt. It's always easy to say I'll do it next year or in a couple of years or it's in my bucket list. Sometimes tomorrow never comes and all that your left with at the end of the day is regret. Where there is a will - there is a way!"
I posted this in another thread and it got me thinking. We should dedicate a thread to dream hunts and hopefully everyone can list thier dream hunts for the 2012 and 2013 season on this thread. This will help to keep us motivated toward making these hunts happen.
2012 - Alpine deer hunt, POW island, Alaska
2013 - Caribou/Moose, Alaska
2012-- BIG black bear at Manitoba Stickflingers with the TallTines boys in the spring and Alaska moose in the fall.

I want to do a spot and stalk hunt someday.
2013 caribou with good friends!!!!
Arizona elk. It will take awhile yet to accumulate the prefernce points needed to have a good chance in drawing that tag, but sooner or later, I hope to make that one a reality.
In the meantime, I'll satisfy my desires with elk somewhere!

Giant whitetail anywhere they exist, anything over 100-110"s where I hunt is truly a trophy. 130"s is very, very rare and 150"s just about unheard of. Kansas,Iowa, come to mind! South Dakota is a sleeper as is Nebraska and some others! Shawn
Watching any of my kids get their 1st deer.

2012 new Zealand red stag,sika,fallow!!!!!!

Moose anywhere And quebec Caribou
I am blessed to be able to have hunts a lot of folks dream of every year, but i still want one more crack at a fall grizzly with my longbow.
I should be drawn again for that tag by 2013...hopefully...maybe...
My first deer, anywhere! :D
Any hunt for animals I love to hunt coupled with sharing it with a good friend is my "Dream hunt".
That said, this year I drew a Utah LE elk tag and will having a "dream hunt" with a good friend. He wants to call and share the hunt with me. Really looking forward to this time in beautiful country pursuing the majestic wapiti.
Beyond that would be hunting for muleys, blacktails, sikta blacktails, mt. goats, bighorn sheep, stags of New Zealand. Some I may be able to do, some I will never do. Restrictions are time, draw odds, money. But that's ok. I am so blessed to have had the hunts I've had, will have and may have.
Spot and stalk cape buffalo and kudu hunt in Africa.
An early season Saskatchewan duck and goose hunt would be awesome.
The waterfowl will likely happen long before the Afrian trip.
Looking forward to completing my electrical apprenticeship in 2013, so after that is done will be going for Tahr in NZ (an obsession), and the dream is Ibex in New Mexico.
Until then will bide my time with the local Fallow and Sambar deer.

My first hunt would be my dream hunt!!!!!
It will be in the South African bushveld though, probably for Impala or Warthog, and then eventually Kudu, so I guess I'm extremely lucky!
I would love to chase hogs in the States and hogs and goats in Australia to.
My Dream hunt??? Just having the freedom to own/process a BOW and ARROWS, a FIREARM of any type....AND BEING IN A COUNTRY WHERE WE CAN HUNT SOMETHING ALMOST EVERYDAY OF THE YEAR....to sum it up..MY DREAM HUNT...is my next one!!!!
Fall 2011; Helping my daughter get her 1st deer.
Nothing big in 2012 as I will have grad/doc classes and home repairs to save for dollar-wise. Have to increase my professional value so my wife can quit working!
I'm hoping 2013 puts me either back at Bearquest or out west hunting elk. I may be fully engaged in more classes though.....
I don't know that anyone that hasn't been on a dream hunt can appreciate the impact or gravity of the hunt.
Only after having been on a dream hunt at BQ5 did I realize the impact it had on me and my life.
There were some very emotional moments that I will always have for myself. While I shared nearly every detail and thought
I had, there were some things about it that will always remain personal and unsaid. They are moments that every hunter should experience for themself. No one can tell you how to feel when you realize a dream......
Very well said longarrow. I like that statement.
most people want to hunt far away places...i just want move back to Montana and shoot a doe with one of the bows i made...thats my dream..john

X2!
Yukon Moose, Alaskan Bear and New Mexico Elk...my bucket list
I think I would start out with the least expensive hunt which would be a DIY fair chase hunt for pigs somewhere down south. After that it's time to head to Canada. First for Caribou in Quebec or Labrador. Then Black bear in Quebec, New Brunswick or Ontario. I'll top everything off with a two week trophy Moose hunt in the Yukon.
Whaaa...What!?...No, I don't wanna wake up!
ELK in Colorado in 2011, oh yea, I'm going with you John :wavey: :campfire: :coffee: Looking forward to a great hunt.
Africa! But i think I will wait until the wife and kids can go.Been dreaming of that all my life.Alaska too.But after working a fishing boat there when i was younger,it doesnt seem as urgent.Beautiful place.
The very first post says it well - figure out a way and go!
I had the itchy feet for a while and did some of my dream faraway hunts - buffalo in Oz, muskox in the NWT, caribou, moose. I've hunted in 14 states now and 4 Canadian provinces. Been to Alaska. I did that by the time I was 35 yrs old and while I do make a good living and we don't have any gravysloppers (kids), we are by no means rich and are sitting smack in the middle of middle class. We work hard (both the wife and I) she has her interests and I have my one (hunting, of course!). She's VERY supportive of that. We are both pretty frugal by nature and you'd be amazed how the hunting fund builds up when you don't eat out much, go to movies, smoke, drink etc etc. Too busy working for that kind of stuff!
Currently I just want to focus pretty hard on the whitetails around here in the midwest and spend as much time as I can hunting with my buddy from Montana. We hunt real good together and a couple weeks a year in his elk camp seem pretty special to me right now.
Of course most guys (myself included) can't afford Stone sheep or multispecies Yukon hunts, but the more realistic dream hunts are well within the grasp of most folks. Make the "sacrifices" - if you call them that - to scratch together the dough and just go.
I've never talked to an old bowhunter that told me he wished he went on LESS hunts when he was young enough to do it!
Ryan
Very true Ryan. I keep telling my wife if she were to quit drinking we could cut our bill in half. She just gives me that look, I'm sure you all get it too from your better halves. We all are very fortunate to have understanding mates.
Northwest British Columbia moose 2013 or 2014.
Hogs at Ray Hammonds or Shiloh Ranch 2012.
All though my biggest dream turned reality was to move out west have my horses and be able to hunt in the back country for elk. I am totaly satisfied with the number of species Wy has to offer but!!!! I have always dreamed of hunting Alsaka for Moose floating a river. If it never happens I will be ok with that for I get to do what many other people consider there dream hunt. May be I could trade some one dream hunts?
I agree with Ryan - the first post says it well. While I haven't had as broad a base of experiences as Ryan I have made a few trips. My wife and I both worked (retired now) and raised 2 kids. We live in a modest house and don't go out or entertain much. I've managed to hunt 11 states, including Alaska. I've also hunted Africa for plains game.
My dream hunt is the next one I go on, but I really would like to do Grizzly with my longbow.
Moose. Somewhere....
Elk anywhere, cow or bull. Bull would be a dream, cow would be something I can maybe do someday.
Cold weather DIY Roosevelts. Next, New Zealand Red Stag.
In addition to annual whitetails here, will be elk hunting in Montana this year and bear hunting in my home state next year. That would leave 2013 for the caribou hunt I've always wanted to go on. Better get cracking. Will be 67 by that time.
A month ago I would have said a moose hunt! But after 29 years I've finally drew a moose tag in my home State of Maine! I started bowing hunting in the Late 80's as a teenager,And i've dreamed of hunting one with a bow everytime i saw one! I am on cloud nine! But someday i would like to hunt out west, Africa, Canada for Caribou. Oh ya did i say MOOSE!!!!!!

You should read Bow Hunting Alaskas Wild Rivers by Jay Massey. You will really get fired up for a float trip!
Tony, we can wait to follow you along on your dream moose hunt!

Elk, moose, caribou...basically anything that you have to pack in for. Elk being the top of the list, I would love to spend a couple of weeks in the back country chasing bugles.
Lots of good thoughts here. As far as dream hunts go, if you are interested in Africa, I still feel it is the best bang for the buck. I've gone 3 times and have never spent more than 7K for the hunt. This does not include taxidermy! I went on a caribou hunt once and absolutely loved it, but the cost of it nowadays normally makes me think about Africa again. Hard to beat staying in 4 star accomodations, eating fantastic food, and seeing a multitude of different species each day.
Currently, I'm with Ryan on this one. Putting most of my focus on whitetails and turkeys....at least untill I can afford to go back to Africa!

TW Come to Michigan for a couple days I can get you a shot on one
The Doc is telling me I probably won't be fit to get out in the woods until at least January, my dream is to prove him wrong and get at least a few days in the woods during deer season.
I'm actually going on one of my dream hunts in a little over a month. A group of friends and I are heading to Ontario, black bear hunting, in August. I'd also like to hunt whitetails on the Milk river someday. TRW
Just read bartcanoe's post. Good luck proving your doctor wrong. Just remember doctors only "practice" medicine and are often wrong. Best of luck to you, TRW
