We went camping this weekend at our bow hunting club, and had our sights set on some pesky chipmunks. I had been getting the boys all geeked up to exterminate them with extream prejudice. We hunted them all day yesterday, and they were everywhere. Here is a picture of my oldest son with his first kill. I have been telling him to aim for the eye, so that it is either a clean kill or an honest miss. Well as you can see, he listens really well. This ones bands measured a solid 3/16" where the typical stripe is rarely over 1/8", so this should easily make and keep the Pope and Young record for years to come. Well, atleast till the next little guy scores their first kill, and he will relinquish the title to them. Get outdoors, it's a great place to be.

Congrats young man!
My little one (5 yrs old) tried countless times, but just couldn't connect, so he decided to get in on the photo opportunity one way or another, so I figured, why not? Here is the both of them...

Great shooting,Yep he's wearing one of those happy faces, congrats.
SaWEET!! And congrats to him on his first Trad kill...I'll bet your chest isn't totally puffed out either Mike, in response to your sons first trad kill. Tell him congrats!
Once my son got the taste of success, he just couldn't put his bow down. A little while, and about 100 arrows later, he connected again, but unlike the first, this guy needed a little help being dispatched. But he pinned him solidly to the tree.

Now for those of you who don't know me, if there is something that needs to be shot, I'm right there in the thick of things having as much fun as humanly possible without the law being called out on me. So that being said, I had to mark a kill of my own with this little guy. In all we had so much fun hunting chipmunks that we were laughing after each shot. Just another great way for a family to get out and enjoy the outdoors for 3 days.

Thats great!!!
That's pretty cool! Great pics, thanks for taking us along.
Great family fun for all and real good practice too. Great job guys.
As quick as them rascals are, I actually thought it likely impossible to shoot one with a bow!
Whenever I tried, they were long gone afore the shaft got anywhere near them!
Good shooting to all! Excellent feat for the kiddo!
Nice, do they taste like elk Mike?
I can honestly say that there ain't a whole lot of meat on them things Don.
Thanks for all the nice responces guys. Nick read all of them right before he went to bed at 8:30. All the kind words will make him sleep good tonight.
Too cool. That looks like a ton of fun.

Fine shootin' young man! Hitting a deer sized critter will be a piece of cake now...
Like they say: "aim small, miss small"
:archer:
Small game with a gun is big game with a bow! I enjoy shooting at the little stuff just as much as the big stuff. Congrats!
Archie

The way I read the hunting guide, it says have fun and shoot away.
How wonderful an experience to be shared and memories to be kept under lock and key forever.
Just proves that the best of times can be had near home w/o having to go on some grand hunt.
Not in anyway putting down a dream hunting adventure but only stated to emphasize what wonderful experiences, hunts and comraderie may only be steps away.
Your example will do much for your son and others that, including myself, to take a step back and rethink the basics to one's own road to completeness.
To your son -- Great job!

Chipmunks are "unprotected" small mammals and may be taken by various means. They are not related to the 13 band ground squirrel (gopher) that can be hunted with no limit also. Now that I know that, I'm busting out the Ace hexheads and gonna try to shoot a few!
Good Shooting ! Brings back memories .
Do you plan on a full body mount ??????? :goldtooth:
Congrats... :notworthy:
This made my day :)
You and your boys have years of hunting together to look forward to. Great job! :clapper: :clapper:
