I'm on summer vacation in Georgia hanging out at the in-laws. My father in-law has cases of old coke bottles with the thick, fairly flat, base. My father in law Gene is probably the greatest guy I know and I look up to him tremendously, anyway he gave me the ok to break a few and try some knapping. Warm summer afternoon in the shade, kids playing and checking on my progress, doing something with my hands. It was priceless even if the point didn't turn out perfect.
I'm on my phone so I can't upload the pics yet but I will soon. I almost forgot after knapping my first point I got to see 5 deer relaxing in a nearby field.....maybe not a big deal to some but I spend the majority of the year in south west AZ......so big deal to see deer. love it.
Enjoy your vacation, theres something to be said about working with your hands and loosing track of time,
can't wait to see your beer point. my 1st point was from a beer bottle too.
can't wait to see it. that's something I've wanted to try too.
still waiting... :readit: :biglaugh:
Pics Please... I have only made a few points from glass, but it works just as good as flint or obsidian.
old tv screens work great, good thick glass. and you can make some very long blades.
Adding pics to the thread is a little difficult from this phone. Headed to the airport right now to head back to AZ. So pics when I get home to a computer. Also looks like I scored a great deal on a snake skin backed Orange Osage bow from my nephew.
Or is that Osage Orange? Any rate its been a very rewarding trip.

Too fun! Glass is cheap and readily available but Im anxious to give obsidian a try....**** seems to have a decent supply...how old was that tv by the way?
Nicely done
Nice point.
Great job.
Looks like an arrowhead to me... I've been wanting to give it a try myself but never had anyone walk me through it..I have the video's but just need to get out and find that shady spot and start Napping...Only problem is the kids will probally keep me awake.. :biglaugh:
Knapping is addictive. I haven't picked up an broke any rock in a while but I plan to hunt with some of my older points this year.
Nice job.I just got some rock and I am going to give it a try.I hope they come out as nice.
I saw a bunch of places that sell knapping tools for more than I wanted to spend. So I went to the hardware store and got some copper tubing and ground wire....spent about nine bucks. Made everything I needed. Super easy. Seems I have found about a dozen extra hobbies when I started checking out this site and a desire to become a little more self reliant.
Oh and keefer it was pretty relaxing.....it could easily go from knapping to napping.
Here are my homemade tools. (http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/x389/ordcorpdw/utf-8BSU1BRzAyMDIuanBn.jpg)
looks good
