Title: Ilf limb Assembly question
Post by: ron w on July 02, 2011, 04:46:00 PM
When putting your limbs on, how hard do they go in. Mine seem to go in very hard. Both risers I have had with 2 sets of limbs have been the same. They come apart just as hard. I watched a Demo by Bob Morrison and it looked effortless. Am I doing something wrong or is there a trick I don't know?? Thanks for your help   :notworthy:   ron w

If your using the trad tech limbs Ron they have a removable plastic sheet under the limb rocker. On some risers you will need to take them off to get the imbs to slide on.You may want to try loosining your limb bolt a little  also.Other than that your mail dovetail may be a little short.I had a set of limbs that were tough to get on and off.I ended up shiming out the mail dovetail in the limbs.

I've had issues with brass bushings catching switched them out with the stainless and no issues.

If you are using a Morrison Metal, you can loosen the bolts and then set your brace.

I am using a Morrison riser with Trad Tech limbs at this point. Isn't that plastic sheet there to cushion the limbs or is it not needed? That would make a huge difference in assembly.

I had a Morrison metal riser and tried to put Trad Tech limbs on it. The only way they would go on is if I took that rubber pad off of the limbs.

Thanks guys, I will give it a try.......I will say I like the way this thing shoots. I just got a set of longbow limbs @ 35# and at my draw of 29" on the 17" riser it is pretty sweet.   :notworthy:   Again, thanks for the info!   ron w

I have no problem with my Belcher and any set of limbs. Like guys said it may be the rubber padding. Do they not fit thickness wise or trying to seat around the bushing? Shawn

How tight are the limb bolts?
To tight and the limbs can be hard  to install.
Suggest no tighter than 2 turns from being bottomed out.
Also if the slot that goes around the limb bolt is tight, just rub some wax on it and they slip in easier.
The clear pads don't need to be removed.
They are there for vibration/sound.
Try to slip the limb over the bolt without using the dovetail to see if this is where the problem is.
If it goes in easy then the issue will be the limb bolt is to tight in the riser, so back it out, or the ILF dovetail is drawn up into the limb to far. Did you tighten the little screw??
If it is drawn into the limb to far loosen the small screw 1 turn, and tap it down flush to the limb. Try to install it again, and repeat as necessary. When the ilmb installs easily remove the little screw, and put some thread locker on it.
Often people see a screw and instantly tighten it. These are only to be snug, and sealed with removable loctite. If you make them tight you draw the dovetail into the limb and it makes it hard or impossible to put limbs on.

I could not slide the limbs in even with the limb bolts out. It tool considerable effort to get them to go in. It did seem like they were hanging up on the rubber pads.

Hey Ron,

I recently purchased a Morrison riser with Black Max limbs - same problem.  Removing the rubber pads on the limbs solved it.

Same for me as southpawshooter. The black max limbs would not fit on my Morrison riser until I took off the clear pads. They fit fine on my Titan with the pads. I just put a small amount of wax on the limb pad to keep them quiet.

I have had 2 sets of Black Max limbs on my Morrison riser.  The clear pads don't fit well, and they shift and deteriorate with time.  I took them off... limbs fit great and I in retrospect I don't think they serve any useful purpose.
