Title: Just buy your first bow? (A couple of tips for you)
Post by: SPARKSNACKER on July 02, 2011, 03:56:00 PM
So after going through the easton guide to tuning a recurve (finger release), I realized that my local shop, who caters to mostly compound shooters, had my new bow set up all wrong.

I highly recommend to anyone tuning a new recurve to check the following:

1. Set your nock height approx 1/2 inch above square with your rest height. Most compound guys set it lower than that.

2. Adjust your arrow rest (or build your shelf out) so that when looking square from the back of the bow, your arrow angles slightly to the left. The tip should be about 1/16 inch, or one arrow width, to the left of the string. Mechanical release compound shooters usually line the arrow up dead straight.

There are plenty more ways to une your bow up, but I just wanted to let new shooters like me know that your local shop might not know much about recurves.

Good shootin'!

Very good post. It took me 4 weeks to get these things figured out, via tradgang. A stickied newb thread would probably benefit many. Also adding wool padding and silencers helped me a ton.  The knock point is huge though
