Anyone have any suggestions for places to bowhunt in the U.P.? I've hunted public land in the lower peninsula but was thinking about doing some camping and hunting in the U.P. Any input and pictures would be appreciated. Thanks guys!
Strongs area. Not to far from Trout Lake, which is halfway between the bridge and Paradice. You can go weeks in the UP without seeing another hunter.
If it was me, I would stay in the Eastern 1/3. Just be prepared that there is so much land for them to be on, you had better do some good scouting before going. I have gone days in the cedar swamp with no DDR sightings, but the ones you do see in there will be huge bodied ones.
Good advice Mke....go too far west and you see some nice land, but few deer....
My wifes family has a place near Autrain. It is near Munising. Any thoughts on that area? I have never hunted it, but I am curious.
I was thinking of hunting near newberry. I'm going up there in august to do some photography work so I'm going to do some scouting around.
my wifes family lives in Newberry they are not seeing big numbers of deer raiding their garden this year. Check the Mich DNR stats for deer numbers and camping info.....Mike is right you will go along time without seeing anyone, many areas are vast a wrong turn could be a permanent wrong turn :scared: .....For years our camp was across the border from land o lakes Wi. in the otawa national forest not a lot of deer but relly big when you find them..... :archer:
What does an out of state tag cost in Michigan?
When does the season start?
We hunted Newberry a few years ago,we were lucky to see a track. It may have changed since, but it was terrible. The UP is full of state, federal, and paper company land that you can hunt. go on the Michigan DNR website and you will find maps galore.
ShrewHaven is where we hang out (Ron LaClairs camp), the deer numbers have been climbing nicely, plenty of them. One tough winter can nock them for a loop though.
I think my license from last year was $140. Thanks for everyone's input!
The Amasa area in Iron County is a great place to hunt.

We leased a 40 in Deerton. (Right down 28 from Au train) I hunted 14 years up there. Missed one wall hanger. Shot 1 8 in spike. Some years you can be lucky to see a track. I usually sit all all for a week during rifle season and I can count deer sightings on one hand. I quit going up there for that reason. Although...Thinkin about making a road trip this year!
Do you guys ever see any moose up there?
Say Ya to da yoo pee, eh? I have close friends that hunt the farmland in the western U.P. and they fill freezers many times. My buddy shoots several every year.

Give Drummond Island a try. Always have had good hunts there..
